It's time to buy oil filters again and was looking for opinions on the Donaldson Endurance ELF7349 (Amsoil EAo80). I don't have the info in front of me right now, but it seems to me the Donaldson had a little bit better specs than the Stratapore. I remember thinking once I used all my Stratapore filters I should serioulsly consider changing to the Donaldson filters. I have found the Donaldson online for around the same price as the Stratapore's at Geno's.

I can't remember off the top of my head which issue it was, but there was a article that breaks down all the different filters and determined which was the best.

The ELF7349 is the best full flow oil filter you can put on your ISB.

Disregard most of what was in the oil filter article, it was not accurate to say the least.

The LF9028 is a full flow/bypass built into one, and has great ratings. It's not on the list of Chrysler filters, and Cummins says it's for a different ISB. It has the same flow ratings, and other important stuff, but with lower full flow media it's unknown how long it will last in the emissions laden 5. 9/6. 7. Since you don't have a 3rd/4th gen it should be good for as long as you currently run your oil. If you have a bypass already don't use the LF9028.

I looked at going with the elf7340 before but read due to its finer filtering ability its media is more restrictive than stratapore's. The ISB oil pump I know is rated around 20gpm and I felt sacrificing some oil flow for finer filtering wasn't worth it. But I don't think you can go wrong with most of the syn media filters out now. Ultimately the ideal setup is bypass filtration to give you the best of both worlds & eliminates the compromise.

The media on the ELF7349 is NOT more restrictive than OEM. It's a very different style media that allows better flow than standard paper filter media at a finer filtration. It is also rated for a lot more miles than OEM media.

lol read my post again, you missed the word Stratapore ;)

I think it was on bobtheoilguy.com where I read it was more restrictive than Stratapore. If it is more restrictive it probably isn't by much. One other thing related to flow though is if the elf7349 has 8 large oil holes like both styles of fleetguard (paper and stratapore) have.

Haha, yeah.

It's been a few years, but reading all the specs there was nothing I could find showing any "restriction". It's a better media, with better flow, more holding capacity, and finer filtering.

The holes are different, I don't recall how, but different. Not to say that it effects flow, just a different design.

I have 1-2 more Stratapores to use up but I think next time I make an Amsoil order I'll have them throw in a EAo80 to try for fun. I would think if it's engineered well flow rate would be there. When looking for info on flow rates last night it did say in the Donaldson information that their syn media filters had a higher flow rate than the cellulose/paper counterparts.

Correct me if I'm Wrong but the Donaldson ELF7349 is the same filter as the Amsoil EAo80.

I shopped around on the web for the best pricing on a Donaldson ELF.

I've been using the Wix "high efficiency" filter for years on mine and I'm surprised nobody else ever mentions them. Specs are here: http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=57620XE

I'm not saying the wix is the end all be all of filters, just another option. Per Vaughn's comment on the 20 gpm from the oil pump... this one is rated at 15 gpm max but has a 14 micron rating.

The 57620XE has a 14µ nominal rating, or 50%. It is rated 25µ at 95%. That's better than the OEM filter, but not quite as good as a stratapore media, and the Amsoil is 15µ at 98. 7%.

what's wrong with the old Fleetguard LF1349???? I have used Fleetguard regular filters on my 93 and my 96,,,,with Premium Blue oil to this day,,the 93 1 million km's before i sold it,,,never a single engine issue,,my 96 is up to around 600,000 km's,,also,,no engine issues and IT has run various alternative fuels for 500,000 of those km's,,,so much for the nay sayers who says you'll damage the engine,,,coke up rings,,screw up fuel pumps etc on alternative fuels,,LOL. ,,,
