Our local Cummins place has been selling me the microglass oil filter for my 24v. I was just looking at a web site that sells Cummins stuff and it looks like the microglass is the premium filter for the 12v and the stratapore is the premium for the 24v. Did Cummins sell me the wrong filters? I've been using these filters for almost 3 years now.

------------------
98. 5 2500, 24v, QC, 4x4, 4. 10 LSD, short bed, tow package, camper suspension, Westin nerfs, camper shell, TST PowerMax3, 275 RVs, EGT/Boost pillar gauges... Love my Cummins, no love for Dodge

Stratapore is the premium filter but mainly for extended oil change. The Microglass is fine. That is the filter the dealer uses to change your oil with. Pete

I think the the Microglass (3552) is for the 12v? Not that the filtering ability is that much inferior to the Stratapore (3894), but the filter housing isn't as strong. The 24v needs a filter with a stronger housing than the 12v.

Here is an exert from an email that I received directly from Fleetguard:
"The LF3894 filter is recommended for the 24V Cummins 5. 9 in Dodge
pickups. It contains our stratapore media and is a more robust design than the LF3552. "

This should answer your question.

Thanks for the info... I'm pretty upset about this. The Cummins place here has been, let's say, less than impressive. Last time I was there, I had to go into their storage area myself to find the filters that the previous guy told me I needed (apparently wrong). This guy had no idea what I needed and, on top of that, had a serious attitude. Strike two...

Don't worry. My Cummins shop has a few "underinformed" employees as well. I try to talk with the same guy all the time so no other a**holes get their feeling hurt when someone on the otherside of the counter knows more than them. The counter guys at my Cummins dealership are just parts "boys", they know nothing more than how to look in a book and get a part number, and they even screw that up.
