My oil filter supplier said that Fleetguard has superceded the LF3552 filter with a LF3935.
Has anyone else heard this or know anything about it?

Mike In Geno'Garage catalog they have the new filter and old filter listed.
The LF3935 is standard filter for 24 valves, LF3552 is Micro Glass as you know.
I believe that the 2000 and/or 2001 models have gone to a bigger spud filter. 89 TO 99 were 18" spuds, newer filter would be 20" spud. I think but would have to look at my Freightliner book, that the LF3935 is the filter which I use on the Freightliner/Cummins engine.
I would have your supplier double check their information. Because there is no way that a standard filter can replace a Micro Glass filter. If its the filter I think it is its going to be to big for your 97 (spud, the exterior is same size).

I just ordered my first batch of oil filters today. Was told by the seller, Fleetguard superceded LF3349 with LF3885 and 3995 for the 1997 12V. .

Hope I got the right ones... ...

Thanks for the replies, but I was still confused so I called Fleetguard.
They said that since the 24 valve engine had more power etc, they found in testing that the oil filter cases were cracking in different spots.
They started making the LF3935 (standard) and the LF3894 (stratapore) with heavier cases, etc to resist the cracking.
Fleetguard is phasing out the older (lighter built) filters and is recommending the newer ones on the 12 and 24 valve engines.
The LF3894 is the top of the line filter now and is to be used on the both engines if you want the best.
