Has anybody used the Fleetguard LF9028 Venturi Combo oil filter on their 5. 9 engine truck? This filter was mentioned in issue 71 of the TDR (pg 69). If you've used this filter, please provide any positive/negative comments.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve! I ran the filter on my Dodge truck for about 6 months. I ran the LF9028 to about 12,000 miles before changing. Even though the filter could have went longer, my conservative ways won me over. The filter does a great job of filtering and provides the option to extend your oil drain interval. The cost will payoff over the extended drain intervals. Is this what your wanting to do?

In addition, reduces cost by maintaining better oil condition and maximizing engine life. Anyway, I went back to the regular filter being I stopped the oil analysis program. I currently have 248,000+ miles on my truck and change my oil at 7500 miles. I have never had any mechanical failures running fleetguard filters. If interested or have other questions, feel free to send me a pm. I sell fleetguard products also. Hope this helps you out.

If there would be anybody else interested in seeing one cut open? I hate to waste a good filter just on my own curiousity.

Before you butcher one open and waste your dollars, let me check this coming Tuesday if the guys at the local cummins distributor have one laying around. I am taking my truck in for a repair. If they will let me snag one, I will do the honors and cut the filter open and post the pictures. :)

A couple more from the ongoing marketing war between brands for the big rig Venturi combo market.

Given that Cummins filtration has an interest in supplying quality filters to keep Cummins engine warranty costs down they are my first choice, especially when going with a combo filter (see the cold flow comments in the second link). There would have to be some definitive real world test data (not bench tests) to get me to use some other brand. That said probably any quality filter will do just fine if the oil is changed regularly.

There you go... drive down to the local Cummins shop and see one in person. No need for me to cut one open and provide pictures.
