here it is We bought a 1999 Fleetwood (you know the outfit with the big motorhomes!) Elkhorn 8R. Seems like a nice truck camper , as we do not have any experience with this stuff , does anyone have a Fleetwood, TC? It seems the Fleetwood company discontinued the TC's.

Thanks Tee,We were looking into "toy haulers", but you're into $20,000 for new and $10,000 used. A friends friend had this slide in. Super nice, good price. Decided to buy it and find out if its all worth it or go back to a tent! Now after spending over $2000 on a Superhitch, Torklift tie downs , Firestone air bags and Heliweg sway bars, plus my tires are gonna be groan'n,(I'm not installing semi truck wheels and tires for $$$$, E rating is all you can get in 17") I'm not so sure this is the best idea!

JPM... . Your apprehension is all in your head. We have a 9. 5 ft. S&S that has been to almost all the lower 48 states and Alaska on a 98. 5 2500 with no modifications to the suspension except Rancho 9000 rear shocks. There is 138,000 miles on the truck with about 100,000 hauling the camper.

The tires are load range E and I get about 60,000 miles out of the front and 40,000 miles out of the rears.

The front shocks are still original and so are all of the brakes.

So load your camper on and go enjoy it, you are over modified!

JPM,

Back in my previouse life, (Wife #1) I pulled a 26ft 5er with a 22ft boat behind that. (I posted a pic of it somewhere in this forum but can't remember where?) When the fience(sp) talked me into getting an RV she suggested a Toy Hauler but I said NO. :-{} Camper or Motor home, preferably Camper as I can separate them at the lake to launch and retrieve the boat! But there was no way I wanted to pull doubles again =) Very limiting on where you can travel. And very exhausting (mentally and physically) to drive.

Its a little wierd getting used to the camper feeling. I've got many a mile pulling 5er's and bumper pull trailers/rv's but this feeling was pretty unnerving at first. I had pucker power to the max the first trip out. But after about 50 miles of canyon roads I was more relaxed. Actually the first couple miles each time I have driven with the camper on (that would be twice more now!) it takes me a few minutes to get the feel. Its just a different feeling thats all. I have air bags and will be getting Rancho's soon. Havn't decided on the helwig yet or not. But probably will as I have to pull the Boat or Race Car Hauler most of the time we are using our rig.

How heavy is that Elkhorn? I thought they were a little lighter than the lance I got (about 2400 dry).

Air your rear tires all the way up to the 80psi E rating, that made a HUGE difference in the "side to side sway/gona tip over" feeling :--) for me. Slow down a little and you will be fine!

I see yours has the electric jacks! Those are the coolest. One of my neighbors has the ole, "Crank em up by hands" He saw me standing out there with the Wireless remote loading the camper and he was in AWE! I think I am going to be helping him install some electrics soon! :-laf :-laf

Spent a couple years in Rocks Springs myself  Not so nice a place :--)

JPM, my apologies for hyjackin your thread. :(

Wondering if your truck has helper springs. Are your air bags hooked together on a single air line or seperate? We like seperate. We have had 4 cabovers and have used helper springs to cutdown on the sway problem. If you don't have helpers, Hellwig makes adjustable helpers where you can tension up when loaded and release the tension when empty for a better ride. A number of people we know with single rear wheel trucks go this way in place of air bags. Fred

Where we live in Shell, WY is probably the least windy place in Wyoming. And we see the Big Horns Like you see your Front Range.

I will probably visit your Cabela's next February on my way to Las Vegas.

My truck has the stock 1 ton helper springs. With a short box the spare tire ,superhitch and heliweg sway bar are all competing for the same space. I need to cut and weld the sway bar brackets to the superhitch plates so I can mount the heliweg bar. :(

The separate fill air bags seem to be a good thing, @ 30lb's the truck's pretty much level.

WyoJim and when you get to Las Vegas you can visit BassPro Shops

Now there is some information I can use. I didn't know they had a BassPro Shop In Las Vegas, and I have never been to one.

Thanks Jaysy!

This is my 'trial' 1985 Lance 200 camper. New A/C. New refrig cooling unit. New quiet water pump. I bought this off e-Bay to see if the wife and I would enjoy a truck camper for travel. We just completed a 4,000 mile trip out west. Picture was taken at Zion National Park. We love traveling with the TC.

I am looking for a larger camper but do not want to overload the 2500. It does have airbags. Two Lance dealers say that a Lance 1010 would work just fine. I was looking at a Lance 920. There is a Bigfoot model 25C10. 6 that I really like - the dry bath especially.

Any recommendations? Anyone want a 1985 Lance 200?

Thanks ,Wade. Went this week-end for trail run/camp. The rig was great. The Cummins seemed to like the load more than running empty! Nice ride very little movement, pretty stable really.

Thanks , everyone that helped out. We traveled to Mid Ohio , for the Vintage MC days. The rig was great, I preferred the truck loaded like that more than empty!
