Who all has put a stronger plate in and what HP/TQ would you change one.

What HP/TQ are you at?

What cause them to rip apart. All the power or the shifting.

Ive seen the pictures of the center tore out. Im just trying to see if i might need one. If so how about a group buy :D

Thanks Jeremie

A broken flex plate recently cost me over $3. 5k in engine repairs. ATS has a billit machined flex plate which I had installed. The stock flex plate should be good to 400-450hp. After that you need to go stronger. After I had the ATS High Performance flex plate installed I noticed that I can feel the transmission shift more firmly. It must be less flex and more plate. --Leroy D.

The two that I have seen broken were done at the end of a 1/4 mile pass. Now two broken ones is not a good sampling to determine a cause, but... It does not appear to be torque or shock loading alone. I have not broken one personally, but I did decide to go with a billet one before I did. I made over 600 1/4 mile passes with the stock flex plate, at a hp level of over 450hp. I'm at over 600hp this year, and decided that it might be a good time to upgrade. :D

I broke mine w/ 484hp and 1017tq tore the center out of it : ) happened while had the truck maxed out at wot 4. 10 gears was doing 110mph for about 2miles and when I let off the throttle i heard the tick, tick, tick and was like oh ***** - flexplate!

Interesting thread. I just replaced mine with a ats billet plate and notice slightly crisper shifting also. I though mine was cracked, but wasnt. Anyway I am for sure not "anal" about how my truck runs, but I did notice the difference with the plate. Its interesting how others have noticed 2?

I'd like to know how many people are running the ATS flexplates and how their results are looking. I know that SunCoast folks are happy with theirs but I think that Billet steel would be a little stouter. Any thoughts??

I think that the best time to replace your flex plate is when you do any transmission upgrades. you will need to do some upgrades to the transmission before you run enough HP if you haven't you will it just a matter of time. I did mine when I put in the suncoast converter and valve body. on the suncoast website they are going for about $432 but if you get ahold of jason at dieselnut motorsports he can probably get you a better deal than that. www.dieselnutmotorsports.com
