Urgent need for a source for a Flex plate and Adapter plate. The Plate that bolts to the engine block and the teany bolts to. Mine has a 7 inch crack in it and right now it looks like I'll have to go to the stealership, I mean Dealership.

700 for the flex :--) plate and 400 for the adapter.

HELP !!!! :{

reliablegoods.com has the flex. They are about 80. 00 if that. You can also source one from any dealership that will sell Cummins parts. You want #3946161 for the second gen trucks.

I don't follow you on the other parts you need... ... ... . sorry. You mean the transmission ADAPTER???????? How'd you bust that???

Get a second gen plate from Cummins. (about $100) I got one for a 95 and it worked good. No problems bolting it up. I am not home so I don't have a part number for you.

The second gen plates are supposed to be heavier than the first gen ones. If you are going to make lots of power in the future, you might want to look at one of the high performance ones that have come out. PDR has one and I think DTT also has one.

Ok The other part I need is the alum assembly that bolts to the back of the block, and attaches to the trany bell housing, it is also where the starter attaches.

Don't know how it broke. I just started hearing a lot of noise. The trans shop pulled the trany down and said that thease were the parts I needed. I visually verified the cracked " adapter plate " and the flex plate hsa a lot of transfer metal on it and is blue in the center..... Not too sure about putting that back on, I'm afraid it would break from being over heated. I also wondered about useing a second gen Flex plate on a first gen truck, and what about a billet torque converter? any thoughts ?

I'ts my understanding the billet TC's are when you get into the lock-up units not the slippery dickery ones that don't hook.

So the flex plate isn't acually broken??? Just the adapter????

You should be able to get both the flex plate and adpater from Cummins. Where are you located? I have one out of a 92 if you come up empty.

WArner Robins, Georgia

How do I get the Part Number, in order to try and get one from Cummins

But most importantly, How do I contact cummins ?

There is a BRANCH HOUSE or three in your area. They supply all the DEALERS in your area. A branch house will buy direct from CUMMINS and sell at wholesale or lower. The dealers in your area will buy from the branch and then sell it to you at a sweet mark-up.

Keep in mind that a branch may be several hunderd miles. You could even contact mine in Columbus Ohio and have 'em ship it to you or contact the one nearest you.

A dealer would be as close as a Dodge dealer. Or an over the road truck dealer. An Agricultral dealership. (Case IH). A construction dealership. A school bus dealership. A repair facility for med duty trucks etc. A marine dealership. ETC. ETC.

The Cummins B is used in EVERYTHING and even if the dealer you visit does not regularily service and/or warrenty the B, they will be more than happy to order any and all parts you may require.

I think I seen a Zambonie powered by a Cummins 4BTA.

I bought a 92 Ram with the flexplate broken. I got the flexplate out today and the center is broken out of the flexplate. The adapter has some grooves in it from the broken flexplate. I will look and make sure there are not any cracks. My Dodge dealer will sell me the flexplate for $224 and the adapter for $300. I don't know if the flexplate is a superceded number to the 94-95 flexplate, but will check into it.

Mark, before you buy anything, let me check with the shop in Tifton and see if there is an engine/transmission adapter. I am sure I have the flex plate. Is this the same truck with the 'noise' that you were hunting. Could be you found the noise.

There have been post previously about the reason (incorrect machining on the transmission to engine hookup) for problems with the flex plate. But with your adapter cracked, that will certainly cause an unusuall load on the flexplate. Also, we are dealers for Cummins and I can get the adapter new about as cheap as can be had anywhere. But I have no doubt that it will be available from somewhere used.

Hadn't seen you posting in a while. Sorry to know you are having a problem.

Great !!!! This info is outstanding ! We found a new Flexplate for a 2nd gen for 80. 00, ordered it last night. Now all we need is to get the adapter plate on order.

I'm haveing lost truck withdrawls lol... any way I took some pics of the plate and will post them as soon as I figure out how to get them into the right size.

Thanks again !! TDR Rulz

"Wow that's ugly. Crank walking on you? I'm wondering too why the adaptor would crack. "

With the flex plate NOT broken, I'm thinking the same thing. Only time I have seen that, it progressed to a broken crankshaft. At the least I would verify that the thrust bearings are not out of spec.

JDKammin. you can beat those prices. In all cases, I let the dealership be the last resort for sourcing parts.

Mark, we do not have an adapter. If you will PM with the engine serial number we can check the depot. They require a number even though all are the same during those years. It is just how they look them up.

James

I checked with the Dodge dealer in Albany and the pn you gave me is subed but the part is 89 to 93 inclusive. I happened to get up with the guy with the 89 and he will sell the adapter since he wants to use a manual transmission.

Run down some of those things we discussed on the phone and get back with me.

While I don't think there is a difference on the crank seal, get me the number off your engine and I will get that on order. There was a posting on that seal a while back. The new item has a teflon seal and has specific installation instructions.
