I know suncoast offers a laminated one and gearend has a billet one, and i am sure there are many others out there. Does anyone have any recommendations on a flexplate. And where to get it?

Thanx

Go Billet

For highly stressed part where given a choice I choose the Billet piece. A billet part is made by machining one solid piece of metal into the shape of the desired part. Laminated on the other hand infers bonding two or more single plates of like or not materials together to get the desired product strength or effect. I think a laminated flex plate would be more suited to an application where weight savings are more important than longevity.

laminated parts (like our windshields) are used to create a different kind of "strength" as they can flex more and therefore not simply fracture and fail. As an example compare plywood to a board sheet.

Had a ATS flexplate in my truck. very pretty piece, makes you almost not want to install it. this is a nice upgrade to go with the ats converter. the ATS flex plate has 12 bolts that attach it to the converter opposed to stock and most of the aftermarket using 6 bolts. after burning up 3 48re's i decide got upset pulled everything automatic transmission related out of the truck (well soon steering column swap) and sold it. turns out the ATS flexplates have a good resale value too. i could have spent another 8 grand and run a ats but i the idea if I wanted to slip 2nd or overdrive I could grind synchros sounded better to me. would definitely run the ATS flexplate and converter. Oh lets not forget you can send your converter back to ATS to be rebuilt. they were gonna do mine underwarranty then I explained to them it was a cut and rebuild job and I sold it as new.

I am doing a trans swap with a guy selling his truck so thats why i was wondering. I believe he has a DTT converter will it bolt up to the ATS flexplate? Are is just made for the ATS converters?

ATS here. Would have picked up a DTT to go with everything else but the shop had an ATS on the floor so no down time. From the looks of it DTT and ATS are the same. I have a new DTT 3DTC coming and it lines up just like the ATS and stock flexplates.

I have never heard of the 12bolt thing. All of the flex plates I have gotten from ATS are 6 bolts.

my ats flexplate and ats converter were both purchased on seperate orders. so it must be an older model you had. 12 bolts instead of 6 makes me happy (except more rotating crank n tightening and loosening converter bolts. especially since I torque in same pattern as you would lugs nutz that only makes for more turning high compression diesel. oh and lets not forget i only turn it the one direction so it doesnt loosen the harmonic balancer bolts (no barring tool here) so i got even more turning. this is only one reason it used to take me 1. 5 hours to install 48re's in my truck and 30 min. to have it sitting beside the truck in the driveway. but every last bit of the ats converter and flexplate was worth it to me from credit card to install. if I went back to the dreaded 48re this truck would run the ats converter/flexplate again this time with a ats transmission too.
