This is just a misc rambling/observation.
I went to Arkansas a week and a half ago to deliver my 28' Coachmen that an old friend had bought. They payed for my fuel and tolls. I'd guess total gross was around 21K lbs. It's a HEAVY unit.
Total trip was 1300 miles + each way (about) and I did the entire trip in about 48 hours stopping for bathroom breaks, food, and once or twice just to stretch my (and the dogs) legs.
Driving there there was a pretty strong headwind down rt 81, combined with manufactured homes, and snowbirds took a toll on my mpg's. With the cruise control mostly on, I got about 10.6 (un corrected for tires) . The fact that the cruise didnt want to back off at the crest of hills (about a 7 mph flare out) definitely cost at LEAST 1mpg.
If I weren't so lazy, I could have done much better. I tried to stay at 70, but every time I got a good cadence going it seemed someone was there to mess it up.
I got a solid 18 + MPG on the way back.70-75 mph on cruise control. Empty weight is right at 10K.
Where they are in Arkansas, it's about 3 hours of back roads before you're on a highway.
Nice place, I think I'd like it there if it weren't for the summer months.
ALL fuel was treated with a healthy dose of Power service diesel kleen. (2x's recommended dose)
The truck didn't miss a beat and didn't consume a drop of oil.
Truck came with 245's I'm running 265's so I did a bit better than I figured.
