Flip up towing mirrors

After a month's wait for another DC nationwide backorder, my towing mirrors arrived. I first saw them on Bigsaint's 3500 truck at the Ida's dyno day. I just had to get them for my 2500. When flipped in the up position they make the truck look like a little KW T2000! The blind spot mirrors integrated into them are really trick too. I had to sacrifice the power mirror option to do the install, but for the looks and operation of them, who cares? I'll be needing them for towing the racer out to Muncie in a week and a half. I wish the truck came with a set of mirrors like these, it's nice to see into those blind spots after four years of getting a stiff neck.

Chris, my local Dodge dealer has been sitting on at least several sets of the new flip-up style tow mirror retro. kits. I didn't know they were on National backorder. Oh well, knowing my local dealer they'd want a premium for them anyway. #ad


As cool as those bad boys are, I decided to go a different route... I purchased a set of the new generation (i. e. , complete redesign + the heated feature) Power Vision mirrors for my Ram. I really didn't want to lose the electric adjustment or heated features of my OE mirrors. To that end, I waited almost three years to get these (I wanted a set since before my Ram arrived in June of '98 although, I didn't want to lose the heated feature... with all the rain we have here they would fog up all the time #ad
).

I have to agree with DieselB59, I put a set on my 97 while I was on vacation in Hot Springs Ark. I had to take a little road trip to a dealer in Little Rock, but they had them on the shelf. It took long to go and get them than it did to put them on. Total cost for the kit was $283!
It makes pulling a 5th wheel a lot easier, when you can see what it coming up behind you and also backing it. .

I looked at the flip up mirrors but didn't want to give up the power and heat functions. For a little over $100 more I got the Lucerix X-Mounts. Easy to install and look great.

Guys - Were these flip-up style mirrors ever offered as a factory installed option?

when I ordered my truck in April 2000 I asked the dealer about these flip-up mirrors as an option and he didn't know what I was talking about. I had seen them on a 99 Ram and thought they were factory installed. The guy who owned the truck did not indicate otherwise. I assumed therefore that Dodge did not offer them as an option on the 2001 model. I now have on order a set of Lucerix (sp) that should be arriving soon.

Richard: The flip-up style mirrors were a factory option that became available with the "late" 2000 models. I tried to order them for my "early" 2000, but to no avail, and had to install them later when they became available.

I didn't order my truck, it came off the dealer's lot. I bought it in Febuary of 2000 and it does have the flip up mirrors.

I heard that the flip up mirrors will have the heat? and power next year. I had the smaller mirrors on my Y2K, got the flip outs on my Y2K01, and miss th4e power and heat terribly. They are GREAT for towing, but look at the glass when adjusting. They are going to break sometime, as mine did at MM. After I dropped my 5er, I folded them back in, and pressing on the edge of the driver's side mirror, it broke on the end near the spot mirror. I wasn't too upset, as I knew it was only a matter of time.

So, it's either get the Lucerix, or wait and get the updated OEM. Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!!! #ad

Chris, Glad you like the mirrors. I put my set on a few weeks back before my trip out to Montana to pick up my new slide in camper. I ordered my set on a tuesday and had them by friday. Just my local friend at the parts counter. Anyway they are awesome. I would not be able to live without them after having them now. Kinda like the hp as well. No what I mean.
