Right on, guys. Don't forget the ride quality, though. My truck, a '97 2500 CC 4x4, with Rancho RS9000's and BFG RAT 285's rides like a Cadillac, if you ask me. I spent the day with my niece yesterday, and we were driving around in my truck. I then took her home in my '88 Honda Civic. The roar of the road noise was awful in that car! We could feel every bump and concrete joint, plus we couldn't see anything ahead in traffic with our butts nearly dragging the ground.

For a 8,800lb GVW truck, Dodge sure knows how to make 'em ride smooth. Probably 99% of the general public has no idea how nice these trucks ride. Non-truck people who have rode in my truck always seem amazed at how comfortable the ride is.

All I know is I sure wish I had the time to take off on a cross country road trip, because I love driving my truck!

Here's my one complaint: in regards to the heater/ac controls, I would like to be able to choose fresh or recirculating air at any setting. My Honda has that, a fresh/recirc lever that is separate from the floor/dash/defrost selector. It never fails that when I have the defroster on in my truck, I get stuck behind some out-of-tune, oil-burning beater car, and I get all their exhaust in the cab because I can't put the defrost in a "recirculating" mode. I'm considering the possibility of modifying my system by adding in some kind of vacuum switch to open and close the fresh/recirc door separately from the position control knob.

Believe it or not (I'm sure someone's gonna jump on me for this... ) the Dodge part. I've always owned Mopar stuff... ... and even though I know the Cummins is the best pickup diesel power out there if it was wrapped in a different brand's shell I wouldn't have one.....

I do love the combination of power, mileage and durability I get out of my Cummins. I also love my 6 speed-you couldn't pry it from my cold dead hands. Dana diffs are also high on my list-although I wish the front one had no CAD and real 35 spline axle shafts.

I also like the ride-and the short turning radius considering the long wheelbase. Heater and AC work good-stereo is decent (could be better but this is a post about likes right?)-love the heated power leather seats and the steering wheel radio controls. Headlights are pretty decent (my truck's a Sport) as well.

And I love the way my truck looks-I think it's the best looking brand on the road!

Comfort & power ! I recently spent 16 hours straight in my truck, driving home from Florida, and hated to see the trip end ! First vehicle I've owned that was this comfortable. And the kicker is, I was pulling a 30' travel trailer, and got caught in a terrible snowstorm in Georgia, but the truck got me through superbly.

I think we have great trucks. I just drove one each of the other brands, and then got back into mine, here are my observations where the Dodge really shines:

Strong stiff frame, too much twist and flex in the others

Rattle free cab, my truck was the oldest of the three, and most miles

Sports-'car' like handling: mine goes where I point it, even with the long wheelbase, the Dodge beat the others here.

Smooth comfortable ride

Wide comfortable cab

Very comfortable heated adjustable seats

Best appearance [IMHO]

Strongest drivetrain for longevity [see sig. ]

Strongest drivetrain for Performance [see sig. ]

After asking about the other owners' experiences, likes and preferences, dealer service, and support, I feel we have the best. There is always room for improvement of course, maybe a true crew cab to satisfy that market, Maybe a factory sound insulation package for those who like to hear their stereo, or carry on a conversation with your passengers.

After the others drove my rig, they were all throwing rocks at their trucks [not literally]. They were really green with envy over the power from the 'tweaked' cummins, and DTT Trans. :D :D

I dont have time to name 10 things. . most have been mentioned already... . main things other than engine... . solid front axle and the turning radius! most other trucks that I have seen/driven take a mile to turn around!! when I got my dodge I didnt lose much turning ability over the toyota short bed I had, oh... and the looks of the second gen. are the bestOo. I've owned three since '95 and I've seen the improvements along the way. Most notable is comfort. I can drive 10hrs in a day and not have a sore back or numb butt. My '94 Ford used to kill my back on a trip. The stereo CD player is great. My daughter likes me to make the bass thump and the mirrors vibrate. Four wheel disc brakes are finally a reality. The mag wheels are true and balanced along with good looks. The quad cab is not too long with the long bed. (I personally don't want a crew cab) It's looks also contribute to a quiet ride in the wind. It rides very smooth compared to a 3/4ton Ford or Chevy. The fold down center console is useful compared to the little cubby hole in the Chevy. Storage in the doors is larger than Chevy. It looks great and the newer ones are growing on me too. But the one thing I like best is the improvements to the 47RE transmission. It comes with a deep pan now. The shift points at least in mine are such that I don't even worry with locking out O/D while towing unless I'm approaching a grade. It won't go into O/D while accelerating until I let off the throttle or I reach 65mph. It's like tow mode all the time. The 2100rpm stall speed puts it right in the sweet spot for launching our rig until we settle into a cruise at 65-70mph when the TC locks up. This one is quiet! At 65-70 on the interstate, we have to turn the radio down to hear the motor! Very relaxing for a long trip. :D
