I noticed that when traveling down the interstate, my hood kinda "bounces and floats". First time it happened, I figured the primary latch wasn't engaged and the secondary was just holding it down so I quickly pulled over. Turns out it was latched tight, except that I noticed I could lift it about 1/4". If memory serves, I cannot compress it, but I can lift it.

Do I need to adjust the latching mechanism, or is there something else I can do? I don't think it's dangerous, it's just annoying.

Thanks

Check the two bumpers, they are on the left and right on top of the painted cross member when you lift the hood. They are adjustable just by turning them. They screw in or out. Go slow and set them just until they hold the hood when it is latched and the side seam at the fender is even.

... Or else the latch itself has loosened and shifted upwards from it's original setting. Leveling the hood for proper fit and lockup usually involves BOTH adjustments, bumpers AND latch, if the hood-to-fender gap is to be properly maintained.

Nothing tricky about it - just a bit of trial and error and you'll get it - I recently readjusted mine - hood gap was WAY off on one side right from the factory - I applied some weather stripping lube (greasy stuff in stick form) to the pads, and adjusted for good contact pattern to the mating surface, combined with solid latch lockup and proper hood gap - all is well...
