I need to install a jack stand on the drivers side while I do a u-joint replacement. It seems to me the only way to get the jack stand under there is to jack up the pumpkin. That way leaves enough room to slide the jack stand under the axle (roughly in line with the spring on that side).

Is there another way (besides jacking the frame) that I'm forgetting?

Ryan,

I was wondering about that back when this thread started...

However, depending on the work I am doing, I place the jackstand behind the lower control arm on the frame. Of course this allows the axle to fully droop.

If I am just rotating wheels, I use a jackstand in the rear and just use the jack up front. I'm not under the vehicle, so if it goes down, it's no problem.

I ended up jacking the pumpkin in order to get the stand under the drivers side. It's just my usual paranoia and fear of screwing something up that made me worry about it. I jacked the absolute minimum to get the tire to come off the ground and get the stand to slide under. Now the deed is done and the truck is resting quietly on the jack stand. I'm working on U-joint replacement.
