Has anyone had a FLowmaster on their truck? What is your opinion of this brand.

The ACHA is in town and they have "a deal" on a system from the turbo back. The money is about the same as what I can get otherwise. I spoke with the saleman today and the system is aluminized, mandrel bent 16 gauge metal with a stainless tip.

It also has a muffler and a resonator. He stated the muffler actually scabs air out of the system???? Turbo??? I believe this may be of benefit but on a turbo it wouldn't really add up to anything real. Am I missing something here?

Granted the guy is trying to sell something and that's okay. But, I'm really trying to determine if it is a quality system and are there any comments pro or con out there.

Thanks for all quick responses, the show has three more days and then the "deal" is gone... .....

I had a flowmaster muffler on my truck, just not the whole system. It sounded real good, deep rumbley sound, and quality was good ,no rust. I since removed it, I like the straight pipe better!

I don't know how Flowmatsters affect a turbodiesel, but I know for a fact that on some turbo gassers at the dragstrip, the Flowmasters cost about 15 to 30 hp at the 400 to 500 horse level on some small block dyno runs I have seen. The Walker Dynomax Super Turbos work very well behind turbo gassers though. I think the hp loss must have something to do with any noise cancellation/baffle type muffler.

flowmaster muffler

Who sells the flowmaster muffler and how much does it costs. Also the pn would help, dimensions???. thnx:p :p :p Oo.

Supplier

From what I could glean from the Flowmaster rep, they are working with local Flowmaster shops to sell and install the kits at introductory offers. Introductory meaning the 4" kits for Dodge and other trucks. Currently, again from what they told me, it is limited to horse and rv shows around the country.

The kit # for our dodges, from the turbo back is, 17346. It is a true 4", as opposed to their catalog info of 3. 5", includes all clamps and hardware.

The catch is they won't sell it over the counter for self install, at least I couldn't get them to. The local shop here is Delta Mufflers with an install rate of $92.

Their key point regarding the mufflers design was that it pulled heat away from the turbo. I tried a couple of times to reference scavanging of air being the design objective, thinking they might relate the relunctance to sell the kit without the muffler. But they kept coming back to the heat issue. Sounds a little BSy to me.

Anyway I mentioned above that they discussed scavanging air as the selling point. I miss represented this, sorry about the confusion. Personally it is more of a Tomato, tamaato thing... ... .

Either way I'm getting one put on this weekend and will let you know what I think about the kit. Also do a search on flowmaster, I came across a thread which provides some pretty good feedback and info. Can't remember the htread or reall how to attach here. computer challenged you know... ... ...

 :(

Hype.

No muffler is best. Straight through with perforated pipe, no louvers in the flow path, is almost as good. your mandrel bent 3" system is fine for up to 350 hp. I recommend if you want more "sound" and less restriction, getting a length of 3" pipe expanded on one end, and the Walker 21468 muffler. If you want 4" there are several vendors offering complete systems at good prices. Do a search on the forum, and look at your TDR magazine ads.

How can you expect a muffler to suck heat away from the turbo

Like I said, salesman giving me information = bs

Regardless, I'm going to give it a try and see. Since I don't need straight through yet, why bother. I can always get a length of 4" to replace the mufflker if I want a louder truck.....

I have had a 4" flowmaster system on my truck for 55k now. The muffler its self is a 4. 5" Raceing muffler. I love it so far it sounds great and as far as I know it performs fine.
