I need to know if it's OK to run a flowmaster muffler without the cad converter. A local speed shop owner said that I should replace the original with a high performance one. Is he trying to sell me or what?

It's safe, a few guys don't even run a muffler. The only thing you'll be lacking is restriction and that's a good thing. I have a dynomax 4" straight thru race "muffler". #ad

My experience with Flowmasters on the gassers is they transmit a lot of sound thru the case into the bed. Flowmaster has a series of mufflers to eliminate this, but I don't know how they did it & if the flow is reduced. My vote is to go with the 4" straight thru so many of us are using. Restriction is low. #ad

you have a caddy on your truck???? all i had was a muffler and res, diesel dont have pollution control, he is trying to snow you, i have a starit pipe but i am thinking of going with the 3in 3 chamber 50 series flow, i called flowmaster and they said it wont hurt the cummins.

I have the 40 Series 4. 5" raceing muffler and I love it. Its not to loud but yet sounds mean and throaty.

I took my 4" 2 chamber off today because I've wondered how much the guy I know that works there said "there is something to be gained by not using a chamber muffler" meant. It got noticeabley more low end with less lag. Top boost even with the valey on is the same, maybe 1 psi higher with the valey on. Egts are the same.
Less lag = less smoke. at least on the bottom end. #ad

I would seriously recomend using a straight through type muffler after this.

chambered mufflers (like Flowmasters) SHOULD NOT be used in ANY turbo application... gas or diesel...

they will hurt performance vs. a straight through style muffler.
