Flowmaster

I've deleted my resonator and muffler and while I like the db level, I don't like the tone of the straight pipe: too muddy.



Would a 3 chamber 3" Flowmaster be a problem? I've got one on my 77 401 Cherokee and the sound is sweeeeet.

I would go with a straight thru type such as Dynamax or Magnaflow if it were me, that will tone it down a little but not restrict the flow.

Are you saying that Flowmasters restrict flow more than Dynomax and Magnaflow?

I had a 3 inch 3 chamber Flowmaster on my 96. It was no louder inside the truck than the factory and outside you could only tell the difference if you were getting on it, It does not make that Flowmaster sound you are used to on a gas rig but it is different. I only removed mine for 4 inch and may put a 'Master on then if the Dynomax Bullet is to loud

make sure if you get the "diesel" muffler from flowmaster. It is out now. I have friends and family that work at flowmaster and that was key in my descision to remove my 4" 2 chamber. They said "there would be something to gain" if I went to a straight through type muffler. I descided to go without a muffler.

Walker 21468 in 3", 21470 in 3. 5" and 21471 in 4" have perforated pipe and chambers around it. Seems to be zero restriction but moderates and improves sound. Sickly uses the 21471.

Where can I go to get the Walker 21471 and how much? I changed the cat to the test pipe, and if the Walker is obviously better flowing, I'm thinking about changing out the muffler too.

Dump the stock muffler. You can get a 21471 @ NAPA. It should run you around $95. An alternative is a Dynomax 17225. It is a smaller 4" muffler of the same design. Becasue of it's smaller size, it will be a little louder, but I don't find it obnoxious by any means. You can get one from Summit for around $50.
