In going thru my owner's manual, I cannot find where it tells how many qts of ATF are needed to do a service (filter change and refill) on my 2007 3500 auto trans. I also want to drain and change the ATF in the transfer case and the manual does not tell how many qts/pints are needed for that.

Any body know these capacities?

Thanks!

I just did a repair on my 48RE (new front band) and it took 12 quarts to bring it to the full mark on the stick. I check it after a 20 mile run down the road. I did not empty the torque converter 100% but all the fluid in the trans was drained.

I just did a drain and service on a trans, it took 7 qts exactly. And the T-case took 2 1/2 qts. This is on a 5. 9l 2004 48re trans.

My '03 5. 9 48RE auto transmission usually takes right around 8 quarts if I let it drip overnight before reinstalling the pan and adding ATF. Have heard that a quick service only requires about 5 quarts but don't know for sure.

No mention of the NV 5600. Does anyone know the capacity? The owner's manual neglected to put that one in too.

Thanks.

This is just dropping the pan and not draining the rest of the transmission by pumping through the return line... . Right??

Correct, do not pump any additional oil from the transmission. Open drain only. Very close to 8 quarts every time.

Don't they give you automatic guys a drain on the torque converter? If you are going to change the oil, why leave most of it in the converter to contaminate the new?

The TC drain was last used by Mercedes, and it went away over 20 years ago. If you want the most complete fluid drain, loosen the 10 valve body mounting bolts and let it drain overnight. You will drain almost 12 quarts. Retorque to 100 INCH pounds.
