Drop the pan and change the filter. Add 5 quarts. Pull the rear cooler line loose, add a hose to the end of it to route into a container, start engine in neutral and watch the flow. When it starts slowing shut engine off and fill add 5 quarts. Repeat once more, re-connect rear cooler line, and top off the trans with fluid. Should take right at 20 quarts.

works for me!!!

so a question on this. I just started this procedure tonight. Everyone says the the pan has a reusable rubber gasket. Mine came with like a stiff cardboard or something with a inner and outer o-ring built into it. Should i use the one that came with my transmission filter change kit that is entirely rubber??? Or reuse this gasket that was on it. It seems to me the one thats on it is not the stock one but could be wrong????? Opinions please....

My truck also has the hardened double o-ringed gasket. I've changed the fluid 8 times and reused this gasket every time. I just clean it up good and put it back on. Haven't had any problems.

That is the stock gasket, use it until it won't seal anymore. Remeber to ding the bolt hole sin the pan out with a ball peen hammer so it will seal.

u gonna do a drive band adjustment and gov. pressure transducer/solenoid change while you are in there?

Yes sir i am.. also changing outthe accumulator spring and speed sensor and possibley the Lock-Up and Overdrive Solenoid Harness. Just not sure i want to pull the valve body at this time for that. If you guys say the gasket works good then i will clean it up and reuse it.... Thanks

If you have time, loosen the 10 valve body mounting bolts and let it drain overnight, you'll get almost 12 quarts out of the system. Retorque them to 100 INCH pounds.

speaking of torques.......what is the torques for the selenoid base, filter bolts, and spring cover. also the pan???Which i had heard was 13ft/lbs

Boy this was a a rather simple process that went well. Thanks for all your guys help!!!!!!!. My fluid actually looked pretty good. The only think now is, i overfilled a little so im going to pump out some tommorow to get back to the correct level. Sure is hard to read that fluid level when the stuff is new

If it is just a little over full don't sweat it. You can usually run 1 to 1.5 quarts over full with no issues. Whne it starts pushing fluid out the vents it is too full.

Well i only put 5qts back in after i did the flush. I drove it today and rechecked it and the level shows just a hair past the X on the word MAX right before the S-turn on the dip stick. It seems to shift fine. Nothing coming out the cover where the overflow is. So i think i wont mess with it
