I recently changed the fluids in my NV4500 and the X-fer case. When refilling neither one took all of the fluid that is specified in the owners manual. Both were short by approx. 3/4 of a qt. I was very diligent in completely draining them both.

It sure shifts nicer than before though so that is a plus.

That is completly normal, you can never get it all out. As long as you filled them up to the proper level you will be fine. .

Now go fishing or at least get the steering installed in the boat...

I just finished putting my transfer case back together for what seems like the tenth time… only the second. I cracked the housing with a bent driveline. I was tightening the last bolts on the drive line at around midnight just to stand up an see that little gear that runs the pump inside the case sitting in the bed of my truck… IM getting pretty fast at taking that thing out. By 2:30 I was refilling it after pulling it out agian and taking the tail housing off. I think it took like 4 quarts when it was dry. And a little over 3 -½ the second time… fun thing to be doing the night before vacation to the coast (Pismo dunes) but with it all fixed up I showed some Chevy gassers what its all about ;)
