What broke in my NV5600?

Ok,

This 15K interval for front and rear differentials sucks. The fluid that comes out looks just as good as what went in! What are you all doing? Is everyone going to 15K or are ya'll going longer on the miles?

I just serviced the front and rear, along with the transfer case. I plan on next time using Amsoil Severe Gear and ATF, however.

Now I am at the point of doing the NV5600. I have read a lot about the Fast Coolers, and the PTO cover filters. Does anyone have any advice on cost vs. benefits? What about Amsoil in the NV5600? Or should I just pop the PTO cover and clean the magnet?

Also, are there any warranty issues with using the Amsoil fluids? I seriously doubt it, but we all know what it can be like to work with DC on warranties.

Thanks in advance.

Diesel Thunder.

I changed mine at 30,000 and all the oils looked good. I put Royal Purple 75 90 in the front and rear,Mobile 1 ATF in the transfer, and Penzoil Sncromesh in the NV5600. I have taken three Ford diesels to almost the 200,000 miles and still have two of them but had always believed 100,000 miles the change interval on the axels. I always changed fluids in the standard trans and axels at around 80,000 and have never had any problems. I know when I bought the Dodge and heard about the fluids being low I bought the Dodge fluids and added almost a quart of fluid to the NV5600,both front and rear axels, and 1/2 quart dodge atf 4 to the transfer case.

I've been doing the 15k interval even though I think it's excessive. I plan to move to a 30k interval soon.

I run 75w-90 full synthetic in the axles and Pennzoil Synchromesh in the transmission. I have fast coolers. The part I like best about the fast coolers is the clear lexan cover.

I've run all kinds of equipment over the years. For the most part the gearboxs have never been changed. I think this 15k 30k whatever is a great overkill.

If an OTR truck changed anywhere close to these intervals it would be in the shop every 2-3 wks for goodness sake.

We have tractors, Combines, Trucks all with the original gear oil. It would cost a fortune to follow a maint schedule that required such frequent gear oil changes.

The engine and automatic Trans of course are a different animal. They must be changed for sure!!!

Amsoil in Everthing on my truck. I run the severe gear 75/90 in my diffs with the PML covers. I will do changes at 50,000 miles. These stupid maint intervals from the factory are just money makers for the dealers.

I agree about the intervals being excessive.

So there should be no worries about Amsoil in the truck, as far as warranty concerns?

And is a PTO filter overkill with regular intervals on fluid changes for the NV5600?

No problem,Amsoil products meet all the ratings for your truck. In fact my local Dodge dealer-Carson Dodge has Amsoil products if you want them to use them. I do my own changes and keep records and reciepts for work done. Reading here some dealers will look for any way out of warrenty claims-maint schedules ,what products used ect. So if this is a concern I would ask the dealers in your area how they handle this.
