It's time for transmission, transfer case, and differential fluid changes. I did a search for capacities and came up with nothing. Anybody out there in TDR land have the capacities. I've read that you should overfill a six speed a little, any thoughts on this. If it's a good idea, how much should you overfill it?

Thanks, Jeff

go to the amsoil website. They have all the capacities there for all vehicles. If you change oil in your six speed put a transmission filter on it. More capacity. You should have a G56 six speed. I am not familiar with them. Use ATF +4 in the transfer case ~3qts and 75w90 syn in the diffs. Probably 7-8 qts total. I bought a pump from amsoil which worked great for filling transmission.

NV5600 fluid capacity is 9. 5 pints. G56 capacity is 10 pints. It's okay to overfill, but I wouldn't go overboard. Too much fluid can overheat and be churned excessively by the gear train. Maybe 1/2 pint overfill? The only way to overfill with a stock transmission is to pour through the shift tower.

NV27x transfer case capacity is 4 pints.

Front axle is 4. 75 pints (fill to bottom of plug hole).
Rear axle is 7. 65 pints (fill to bottom of plug hole).

G-56 capacity.

My G-56 held 6. 25 qts. last change.

Which One?

I crawled under truck and noticed that the transmission had two filler plugs in it. On the right side of the transmission there is an upper plug that has a star socket plug in it. Below and forward is an allen type socket. Which one is the filler plug?

It's the lower plug that takes the 14mm hex wrench (the same as the drain).

I changed the fluid in my 6-speed this weekend at 30k miles. Stock fluid looked pretty good. I went with Amsoil for that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you spend 9. 99 a quart. 6. 25 quarts did the trick for me.

I've got a small embankment beside my driveway, so I just drive up on it, with drivers side higher than passenger side to overfill transmission a little. I have filled through shift tower also, but this is much easier. It doesn't take much of an angle either. Maybe it will save you a few minutes?

Done

Did the fluid change last night. Amsoil throughout now. Easy job. Cost $ 158. 00 for all the fluids. Dealer wanted $350. 00 for the job, not sure if you got synthetics for that price. Thanks to all of you for the information. :) Jeff
