I've serched the forums and checked out the web sites, but what do you guys that have them, think of them? How hard is the install? What are the prices and the best place to get one? Is there only one manufacture? Where would I benefit from it the most?



Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
 
mine is waiting on the bolts from the dealer before I try to install mine just in case. I should have mine on by the weekend.
 
Definitely worth it with a traditional dual disc clutch. Made a HUGE difference, both at idle and at speed. Particularly in 5th gear. The trans would tend to talk to you quite a bit under load without it, smooth as glass with it.



Didn't really notice any benefit when running a single disc, maybe a little quieter drivetrain.



Maybe with your G56 it will let the trans live a longer, healthier life?

How durable are they, and has there been any problems with it in any aspect?

I've seen them around for awhile but never heard any PROS or CONS.

There is a lot of debat when it comes to adding more weight via triple or billet TC's.

Why is there no debate to adding weight to the other end of the crank?
 
The damper that comes stock on Dodge trucks is ok for the hp and rpm range that the truck is delivered with. When hp and rpm is increased then upgrading the damper is a very good idea. Engine manufacturers all upgrade dampers when they offer higher hp and rpm engines. We have seen smoother engine operation. Some say more hp but we have not measured that result.
 
When you lug the motor down in too high of a gear (just off idle for example). that grown that manual transmission is almost gone. Definitely when you running above 2500rpm at WOT things are smoother. The motor does seem to run quieter.

Maybe it's my head trying to justify $400 :) heh.

The vibrations I was looking for in the clutch peddle and accelerator peddle are still there. Maybe a motor mount? more likely something funky in the ConFE clutch? Tweaked flywheel? Sure didn't do much about this vibration. :( Last thing I need to do now is pull the transmission. Maybe I might once a long weekend this summer comes around, drop in a the sprung DD clutch when it's available.
 
I've been very pleased with mine and have many customers with the same feelings. The Fluidampr is a much better unit as far as longevity and quality as well as the added performance aspect.
 
I read in the service manual that you are suppose to check the stock dampener to see if "it has failed". What happens when the dampener fails anyway; can you tell?

Service manual page 5013 for the 05's

Check the rubber 'member' between the inner and outer hubs for deterioration and/or missing parts. Replace if present

Check the index marks on the face between the inner and outer hubs. No more than 1/16th of an inch differance. replace if OOL (out of limits)



I tried to install my fluidampr today and I could not get the stock bolts out without turning the motor. Are there any tricks?

Be sure you didnt untorque any of those bolts while the motor was turning. You wouldnt want that damper to come off.

???? From the posts , I believe the damper is bolted on . (easy replace )

Not a single nut on the crankshaft with a key way ( and front seal ) .

Please, I'm ex GM, no very little about Cummins ...

Yeah, 4 bolts to hold the damper on. On the 3rd gen motors there is a alignment pin but it stays put and the new damper has the hole predrilled for it. The Fluidampr also has a TDC mark just like the OEM unit.



I torque mine to 155-165 Newton Meters.
 
My research

When I was trying to decide whether to buy the Fluiddampr or not I did a bit of reading and also tried to notice who was using the product. It seemed most of the big guns were running it. My understanding is that any time you add a poweradder on your truck then you change the sequence of timing, duration, rpms etc, etc. When you do this you take the oem balance out of the rolling engine assembly and a wee bit of torsional vibration is introduced in that system,... it's an engine killer and you defeat the whole purpose of buying a diesel which is longevity of the product. You will literally slowly but surely shake the thing apart little by little. It may be minor in most cases but it's still there. The Fluiddampr puts it all back in balance.



I think if you ask anyone running it there is an immediate loss of vibration you didn't realize you had until you don't have it anymore. In my case I did the Fluiddampr and the Helix II at the same time and geeeeeeez,... what a difference in smoothing out the power. Amazing. The Fluiddampr is what I would call the best insurance you can have on a modded truck. :)
