Hope this helps some..... Andy

P. S. -Yes its makes a HUGE difference is how smooth the motor is going through the rpm band and even lowers the rattle of most double discs somewhat.

.

Thanks Andy,

"Huge Difference" - is good !

I'm sold already.

Getting rid of vibration could even increase mileage I bet.

Anyone else have a similar story ?

IMO Fluidampr has a long history of being a great product, and doing what it's built to do and doing it very well.

After I inst. mine, there was not a lot of noticeable differance, but I could hear a small differance in sound when accelerating at low RPM while towing.

To make a long story short, I've used Fluidamprs on all my gas powered race engines for years, (This is my first on a diesel. ) and for me, just knowing it's in there, doing it's job, makes me feel good, and well worth the time, trouble, and money.

Thanks for the replys.

Seems like there are probably lots of satisfied customers.

I'll be getting one when I get the new rig.

I know on the Cummins 855 you are supposed to change the vib dampeners every so many years, miles or if the dampener doesn't look good. So higher milage and more power it probably isn't a bad idea. They are probably not much more than a stock replacement either.

IF you have a RASP fuel pump it is a VERY tight fit, but do able. IF you have high hp I think you are suppose to pin it as well.

What's high horsepower ?

I doubt that the 305 hp in the new Chassis Cabs qualifies..... which is what I'll be getting one for.

I shouldn't have to pin it..... even if I got it up to 400hp... . I don't think.

I'm not going to bomb it... . maybe a little exhaust work... . better intake.....

a Quadzilla or Smarty... . but just some mild tweaking there for the mileage and the mountains.

That probably won't even bring it up to the 350 hp of the pickups.

I don't know much about this stuff ... . but it should help smooth everything out.....

and that can't be bad... ... vibration is a killer..... eventually.

I thought you needed to pin it if you were using electronics which would raise the electronic setpoint of the governor.

.

Uhhhh, Good Question Holtz !

I'll call Fluid Damper (if possible) and find out.

That brings up another question.

Will any of these tuners ..... git rid of that Governor on the Chassis Cabs ?

Seems as though that is what you are saying here.

I like to get rid of that 76 mph cap.

I've not heard how to do that anywhere - yet.

..... anyone know ?

Ray

Hi Ray, if you are planning to buy a brand new Dodge Cummins it will come with a fluid harmonic damper. Cummins started installing them on the 6. 7L engine when it came out. I don't know if they're supplied by Fluidampr or if they're as high of quality though.

Pinning the dampr is for those who will be running high rpm. For those with the occasional burst you should be OK.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Vaughn..... I'll track down that piece of information from fluid damper or dodge - if I can. ... Thanks ... ...

I had no idea that they already came with one.

... ... That's good news.

Anybody know about getting rid of that "76 mph Governor" ??

2bear, read this article, scroll down to the section labeled NVH near the bottom: New Dodge 6. 7-liter Cummins Turbo-Diesel Engine Revealed

Also you can google with this: Cummins 6. 7 viscous damper

Thanks Vaughn,

Yes I see there that it lists a... ..... "Viscous vibration damper"

So I had to look up the word viscous (duh).

... ... . "Having a thick, sticky consistency between solid and liquid".

Wonder what that stuff is.

Whatever it is... ... I guess it's good enough that I won't have to go buy a Fluid Damper.

So the question is answered..... thanks much... ... . and happy trails.

I'm thinkin' one of these might be a nice spring project. If I should decide to also pin it with the roll pins, is there anyone out there with the jig and drill bit willing to let me "rent" it for a weekend, thus saving me the expense of buying the jig for a one-time job? Of course, I'd have to find the roll pins somewhere. This would be for a '98 12-valve.

Thanks,

-Jay

I didn't pin mine. Fluidampr instructions that came with mine said it was only advisable if running past 3500rpms. I torqued mine to approx. 110ftlbs and applied locktite. I don't think it's going anywhere. If you look at the 3rd gen, in-order to drill for the pin, you'd have to remove most of the front-end to get at it.
