I'm not a mechanic, so please hold back any "no kidding" comments.

Forward of the transmission pan there is a silver-looking roundish container. On this container is a silver-looking curved face plate held on with three metric screws. It is either part of the trany or transfer case. I am leaking a pretty good quantity of orange colored fluid from around this face plate. I have attempted to tighten the screws, but they are already pretty tight.

Any ideas what it is or what could be wrong. I have to drive to work tonight (120 miles) and then when I return it is going into the dealer (still under warranty). I would like to have an idea as to what is wrong so the dealer doesn't give me a line of bull.

Thanks everyone! Merry Christmas!

This sounds like it may be coolant leaking from above and running down your bell housing. If yo look toward the rear of the engine on the passenger side you will see a short piece of 1" hose with two hose clamps. This hose is notorious for leaking. Normally all you need to do is tighten up the clamps.

I'll second that coolant leak idea! Back and forth to the dealer until they finally put on non-mopar arctic grade hose and two new stud type hose clamps... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Like magic!! It stopped leaking.

definitely sounds like coolant. sounds like its running down the the back of the engine and collecting in your bell housing and dripping from the access cover.

Well, that's interesting. Since I'm not where my truck is... . and won't be for at least two more days... . is the hose easy to see or is it a "lay on the engine" type of exploratory find? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again guys. Merry Christmas!

You will need to look for it from underneath the truck, should be easy to see with a flashlight.

Mine was leaking from the same hose. You can see the hose without getting under the truck. Look at the passenger side of the engine - near the first cylinder - basically near the firewall. If memory serves me right, it should be just below the cylinder cover line (so near the top of the engine). There is an adjustable band clamp on each side of the 3 inch hose that you can tighten with a screwdriver, small wrench or socket... . I don't recall the size.

I tried to tighten the band clamps, but they were already tight. The leak continues, but all the levels are fine. I'll simply take the truck into the shop after Christmas.

Thanks for all the help guys! I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas!

I wish yall had pictures, mine is leaking also, but not there. Mine is towards the front, under the air intake / alternator area. I wondered what that smell was. #@$%!
