I am about to change all of my fluids. . i. e. axles, transfer cases, and transmission.

Can someone tell me how much to put in. I know what the manual says on how much, what I am looking for is like bottom of the plug or 1/2 inch from the bottom of the plug things like that. Also is there a drain plug on the transfer case and on the transmission or on the transmission do you have to pull the PTO covers.

I have a Dana 80 and a Dana 60 a NV4500 and I believe the HD transfer case but I could be wrong on that. The truck is a 97 2500 4x4.

Thanks,

Doug

The transfer case has a drain plug, the transmission can be drained by removing one or more of lower pto cover bolts, on the differentials you have to remove the entire covers, use silicone RTV to reseal after cleaning the mating surfaces.

Beware on the trans fluid, if you want to use the recommended OEM fluid it's hard to come by without getting ripped off by the dealer. http://www.standardtransmission.com/dodge.html bottom of the page, has a good price. Some folks mess up and use Valvoline Syntec instead of Castrol Syntorq, they are two different things.

I've found the capacities stated in the manual to be correct. Have had several differentials start leaking out the ends if the diff is filled to the bottom of the fill hole, heed what the manual says and only fill to half an inch below the plug.

I'm with illflem, Don't overfill those differentials. I did so and it cost me an axle seal and a pinion seal. I did so on bad advice at a time when it was "supposed" to be better to overfill since the Dana 80 is lub'ed by the 'splash' method.

High mileage???

At my high mileage what should I look into as far as my transfer case and axles. I had my transmission serviced and bands adjusted at 175k. I am now @ 206,102.

Im with Doug... I would like to know before I get into it.
