Will be changing transaxle and front differential fluids-6 speed-2001-32,000 miles-1st change. Rear changed with RP 75-90.

Suggestions on fluids and also maybe tips, etc on the how to or to make it easier? Thanks.

For the Axles, I just use Napa Valvoline 75w90 Gear Oil. I buy it in 5gal buckets and break it down into 1qt bottles (5-qts rear, 4-qts front). I just squeeze the bottle into the differentals until they are full. I run Napa ATF Dextron III in the Transfer case. I just squeeze it out in qt bottles until the x-fer case is full (about 4 qts).

In the transmission (NV5600) I run, and have had great success with, Amsoil Series 3000 HDD 5w30 oil. It takes around 4-qts to fill. To drain, I remove the PTO cover on the drivers side. I also take out the magnet in the bottom of the transmission and clean. I also look inside for excessive wear on parts (have not found any yet, but the reverse gear is beginning to show wear). The fill plug requires a 17mm hex key (VW bugs used this size for everything).

I used RP Syncromax in the NV-5600 seemed to shift a little easier.

Pull the lower bolt on the PTO cover to drain if you don't want

to pull the whole cover and clean the magnets.

Used RP 85-140 in the rear and 80-90 in the front.
