Created this to no hijack Wayne's post.

Can this 88V meter be used to measure RPM on a motor with any number of cylinders?? 1-12 cyclinders?
I'm asking because the snap-on meter I have forces you to select 4,6, or 8 cyl and tells you what it is. If you wanna do more or less cylinders you gotta keep that in mind.

Due to more small engine work, I'd like something easy for single cylinder stuff.

Is there a way to measure RPM on a COP (coil over plug) / DIS system?

My Fluke 79 (from 1988) is starting to not cooperate so I'll be replacing it and thinking of the 88V kit.

I have a few small engines I need to work on that need to have MAX RPM set and currently that tool is not working either.

Looking at getting either this:

or
https://gtc.ca/Products/GTC505m.html

Yea, they each do different things - but I need to replace the fluke first.

I had an inductive tach that was a shop tool from Stihl. You could hold it up to the wire, or it had an antennae lead with a clamp. Doubt it would work with COP.

My 88 will do 2 and 4 cycle, and I believe it’ll auto range 1-12 cylinders. I’ve seen a clip on inductive COP adapter, but I’ve never used it.
No foul on starting this thread- I thought I was seeing things though lol.
I’d like to start a thread on oscilloscope use, but I gotta get one first!

Finally got around to working on the garden tractor after hooking up the snow blower. The fluke says 3550 RPM - so, below the 3600. Now I know that my other identical spare garden tractor is too slow. I never knew which one was correct.
