do I really need to use a flush when changing coolant, I've changed out a couple of times and there is very little deposit in the old coolant, my cummins shop said it was fine to use a flush like prestone if I wanted too. Has anyone used a flush in our engines?

I don't use a flush unless the cooling system is real dirty. Some of those flush products can for some reason cause a water pump to start leaking afterwards. I pull the thermostat out with the bottom radiator hose off and back flush the block with a hose nozzle full force. I also back flush the radiator from the bottom up. Chris

Ditto!

Just be sure to open the drain plug because the lower hose is actually several inches up the radiator.
