Hi everyone is flushing the brake system fluid the same as it been for a while r/r L/r r/f L/f or is there something more i should know. Just doing it as a maintenance thing at 103,000 thanks -merv ps about how much fluid should i buy?
I would suggest using an old turkey baster or similar device to empty the master cylinder reservoir as much as possible first. Then fill it with fresh fluid and bleed them in the order you suggested.
I bought a MitiVac on ebay... use the turkey baster to clean out the master cylinder and than expect to use a quart of fluid... I like the MitiVac as you see the dirty fluid in the container.. and I draw it out until its clear... I do it every 2 years on each of my vehicles...
I alternate between yellow and blue fluid each time I change the brake fluid, just flush until the other color comes out. (I learned about it on the Internet so it has to be good). Of course, the only blue fluid I have ever found is AFE Dot 4, but I think that's OK. (Remember, I heard about it on the Internet!)
Questions about flushing:
1.) When you flush the brake fluid do you have to worry about flushing the abs unit?
2.) If so then how does a DIY type do this or do you need a special tool to cycle the abs unit?
Just don't use the DOT 5 silicone fluid! It is not compatible with DOT 3, 4 and leaks easily through fittings, etc. It also has no tolerance for moisture, which the others absorb to maintain fluid performance.
Everything I have read says it requires a DRBIII to cycle the ABS system. I don't know how much fluid is actually trapped in the ABS module, but I can't imagine it to be all that much.

Having changed mine several times, and understanding that the service manual recommends doing that, (but not doing it my self). I feel better.
