Well, my trip got cut short and I only did 1,800 miles instead of 3,000 miles. I've been home since Wedensday morning, but I didn't drive my truck all week.
I just today took it up the road to the truck wash and to refuel to get final numbers on my last trip.
Total trip was 1,833 miles using 166. 094 gallons of diesel for an average of 11. 04 mpg.
The first half of the trip was injectors only @ 927 miles and 88. 023 gallons of diesel for and average of 10. 53mpg.
The second half of the trip was with injectors and Quad on 60hp @ 906 miles and 78. 071 gallons of diesel for an average of 11. 61mpg.
I-80 doesn't have any real hard pulls, but it is 70-75 mph the whole way. GCVW was in the neighborhood of 18,000-20,000#. I was ~1,500# or more lighter on the way home and had some 55-60mph state road travel as well. 4 horses out and 2 horses back.
Also, my truck never shuts off when I'm on the road. I've left it run for 10 days straight before. While I sleep, eat, fuel, drop off, pick up ... ..... no matter. I'm not sure what 6-8 hours a day of idle time does to my mileage, but I need heat and/or air to sleep.
I'm leaving in the morning for a 6,500 miler ... ... ..... this time I'm leaving with the Quad on 60hp.
My first impression of the injectors without a box before I left was a little lack luster. You can feel them, but it's not an explosion of power. However, once I got a load on it, they pulled harder and smoother than the stock injectors. I think if you put a 40hp box on your truck, the fuel curve is remapped making it peaky and more noticable, seat of the pants. The injectors are working on the factory fuel map and not as peaky. They do pull harder with no box.
Once I turned the Quad on, there was no doubt that they were liking the pressure and timing. They do produce a little smoke without a box, just a warning.
This trip, I'll be headed to Texas, back to Maine and then back to Ohio, so I'll get some flat ground and back into the east coast mountains. We'll see what mileage is, but I doubt that there is gonna be any gains. F1 Diesel doesn't advertise MPG gains, I just thought that through efficiency, there might be some improvement.
Overall, if I had it do all over again ... ..... I would. We'll see what this next trip holds.
