I Wanna Stay Home Now

Dodges poor showing at San Diego Auto Show

Anyone have an FM transmitter package? All I need is ~20 Watts or 5 miles so I can transmit on the radio during Thunder in Muncie. I will buy one if necessary, but I prefer to rent it if I can.

Not trying to pee on your parade, but the FCC has something to say about this:

(From: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/getstat.html)

"Unlicensed Operation Prohibited. A very common question asked to the FCC is whether broadcasting at very low power requires a license. Please be aware that unlicensed operation of radio broadcast stations is prohibited, even at such low powers such as 1 watt or less. The only unlicensed operation that is permitted on the AM and FM broadcast bands is covered under Part 15 of the FCC's rules, and is limited to a coverage radius of approximately 200 feet. (See the Commission's July 24, 1991 Public Notice. ) Unlicensed operation is also not permitted in the television bands (including 87. 9 MHz, which falls within the 82. 0 to 88. 0 Channel 6 television band). Fines and/or criminal prosecution may result from illegal operation of an unlicensed station. "

This .jpg outlines what a low power station must do to comply:

Again, I'm not trying to pee on the parade - especially since I feel that this is a VERY good idea to help keep people informed and organized. I wanted to make sure we don't get in trouble... .

Eric: I apologize in advance if you've already done your homework and found a way around this. I'm just tryin' to look out for 'ya, man! :)

Matt

I was aware of the FCC licensing. I have several emails out to see how that all works. If I need a license, I'll get one. If I have to broadcast a certain amount of time, I will. It's worth it.

I have heard horror stories about people trying to get in contact with the FCC.

They're WAY overtaxed with commercial broadcasting stuff.

They have gotten a LOT better with amateur radio stuff, however...

Sorry to fly off the lid like that, but I didn't want to see you get in trouble. Granted, the chances of you getting in trouble would be relatively small, but all it would take is one person to complain... then they'd start looking into how to string you up by the short hairs.
