Just ordered the 230/605 plate and am having second thoughts. . When I am going to want more power (not if), should I slide this plate foward or go with the 250/6?0 plate and slide it back until I work on the transmission?

More directly, how much will a 'slid' plate give me over the stock position?
Stock?
230?
250?

Trying to avoid the cam plate dance here. Opinions?

Thanks alot, Steve.

Steve:
Go with the 250/630. You've been in my truck and that's what I have. VERY driveable.

Don't "detune it"... install it where it should be. You don't HAVE to drive the truck with your foot in it all the time! On the other hand, TST allows you to swap plates (30 days?) if you're not satisfied with the one you purchased so there's no need to worry if you start with the smaller plate and decide to upgrade.

By the way, didn't you tell me you weren't gong to do this until next year?

I also have the 250 hp plate. I am very happy with it. I had the stock transmission for about 6,000 miles and then upgraded to a BD valve body and torque converter. The stock transmission is ok, just don't drive it like you stole it! Although it is tough with the new found power! #ad

Well, yea, I did say that as a matter of record... However, the funds 'fell' into my lap and I couldn't pass up a perfectly good opertunity to modify the Dodge now could I?

I purchased the plate and the guages through DIS and i'll have to check on thier return policy. It should take me a couple of days to do the guages, so the wait won't kill me if I decide to send the 230/plate back. Your wisdom is appriciated and i'll digest it for a couple of days. Thanks, Steve.

This 'Bombitis' thing, could it be you who delivered the cursed bite? I think so... #ad

I just moved up to the # 5 plate-280hp-experimented with the position of the plate. I found I had . 4 of an inch movement forward from stock. The best power position with little smoke was . 24 forward from stock. I believe I'm somewhere north of 300 hp with the other mods I have.

Bill:
You've got my curiousity. Is this the plate TST says is for "off road"? Long ago when I ordered my #6 I remember telling TST I wanted the plate that's "one from the top"... real high tech on my part. I believe your's is the one above mine. I have the larger injectors and a larger turbo and thanks to your post, I'm now curious.
Talk to me.

EZ94,
Iv'e got the #4 plate, 270 I think, My egt was was too high too soon until we moved the plate back . 040. Now it's eazy to live with. I'm running the stock turbo so you should have even less temp problems.

I am really happy with the engine mods as is for now. It works great for my use. The gov spring kit was the icing on the cake. A must have addition in my opinion.

Well, after a couple of days of thinking about it... I have decided to go with the 250hp plate. I know the motor will take tons more hp but i'm not ready (famous last words) to tear into the trans just yet with the addition of a larger plate. After all, can I use all of that power? Probably not. (but it would be nice to have!) I do have to finish my shop sometime in the near future (30x60) so the guages, pillar and cam plate are the LAST mod I will do until I can get it finished. #ad
Thanks all!

Steve.

I don't know about a #4 plate the 270 hp plate for our year truck is #5. Its supposed to be for off road use #ad
. I experimented with the location of the cam plate and unloaded and not towing anything I like its present location. TST claims 30 more hp and lower egt's with the 16cm turbo housing. I towed for the first time last week and now have to much hp for my torque convertor. Couldn't really get accurate read on egts because of the slipping between 45 and 55 but just touched 1300 once or twice once I cleared 55. Smoke is very little at current position of cam plate-did get alot with plate all the way forward( another . 16) without any more noticable power.
