2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Fog light ??????????????

I was doing the fog light mod and the fogs didn't work. I am now thinking they might have never worked. My clearance lights on 3500 were never hooked up the plug was left unpluged. I never gave it a thought for two years :--) I was trying to see where the fog harness plugs to the main harness but really couldn't see where the harnesses went to. Any tips? I checked the fuse which was OK. Bulbs filiments look OK. I guess I need to try a test light in the plug? Thanks!

Did you put a fog light relay in the power distribution box under the hood? It won't work without it, and it's not there if your truck didn't come from the factory with fog lights. You can get one at the dealer. Hope this helps.

Yes, it has the relay and I am the original owner so I know it had factory fog lights. Don't really remember ever seeing them work.

I'll assume that you have verified that the bulbs are good.



The fog lamps on your model year 2001 Ram are on a switched ground circuit. The circuit path is as follows:



Battery > fuse G in PDC> bulb filament > switched (large) terminals of fog light relay in PDC > fog light portion of headlight switch > ground



Twelve volts should always be present at the OR/RD wire at each bulb socket. If it isn't, you have a problem between the battery and the bulb socket—fuse G in the PDC is the only component between the battery and the bulb socket.

I assume this mod is the jumper across the large sockets under the fog light relay in the PDC. All the relay does is act as an interlock—it opens when high beams are selected preventing fog lamp use with high beams. The jumper defeats the relay interlock. If this is your mod, grounding either end of the jumper (with both ends of the jumper installed) will light the foglight bulbs, regardless of the position of the switch in the cab. If grounding the jumper lights up the bulbs, your problem is in the headlight switch.
