I would like to keep the fogs and highbeams on at the same time. I checked Dave Fritz's site but the link to the procedure is not working and he is on vacation.

Anybody remember which wires need to be switched?

243,

The procedure for the 2000 & 2001 Rams is quite simple - I imagine 1999 is the same.

1. Pull the fog lamp relay from the PDC.
2. Jump the two large (quarter inch) sockets where the relay used to be.

This jumper - make it from two quarter inch spade lugs and an inch of wire - does not turn the fog lamps on. It allows them to be on when the lamp switch is pulled to the fog lamp position.

It would be the same for all years. If you want to make it look real clean, here's what I did. I disassembled the relay and gutted all the connections. I then soldered the jumper to the two spades. Looks a heck of alot cleaner than having a wire or something. But,if you look at the bottom side of the relay,I used pin #2 and #3.

243,

There should actually be less load on the light switch on low beam as you won't be flowing current through the trigger coil of the fog lamp relay. On high beam there will be more through the switch because the fogs will now be on.
The light switch hasn't been an issue (that I'm aware of) on my model year 2000 - I have 27,000 miles with always-on fog lamps and the Brite Box and no problems.

Please pardon my ignorance! "Pull fog lamp relay from PDC. " What does PDC stand for, and where do I find it. Thanks! Ray

Actually, the link on my page is OK, it just isn't obvious. (The dead link is for adding aftermarket fogs and using OEM fog light wiring. I have that information archived somewhere and I plan to post it) The fog/headlight listing on the repair link has been revised. The fog mod information is here: http://www.ecpe.vt.edu/~dfritz/technical/electrical/headlight.htm#Hi&fog

I don't have info about the 99 model Ram, but it should be similar to the 98 (text only) or to the 00/01 (text and photos). If your PDC (power distribution center) looks like the photo of my 01, try that fix first.

If someone could let me know which fix works for 99 models and 97 models, I would appreciate it.

Dave-

As I've said before, you have a helluva website and I was not putting it down in any way. How was Alaska?

I did use a jumper wire as suggested but it was not pin #2 and #3 on my 99. I will check the pin numbers at lunch and post them later today. I will play surgeon on a relay when one of them dies to replace the jumper.

Thanks 243, I'll add the pin numbers and description for 99 models when you post the details.

We are just so happy to be back #ad

Had a wonderful time, got to play with the truck on numerous national forest trail and logging roads, and hiked off a few pounds which have already begun to return #ad

Unlike my F250, which returned from Alaska very tired and in need of repairs in 1993, my Ram has now completed two trips and returned home ready for more.

Now that we are home again, Sue wants me to get to work on her 01 ETH. For a while I get to make mods and add accessories on her ticket. Woo Hoo!
