Fold Down Rear Seat

If your like me, You want be able to access all available space in your truck. I found that if you unbolt your rear seat that isn't able to be folded down, you can trim the plastic anti-rattle clips to allow you to fold it down. The seat is still more than secure since clips are longer than the metal they cover. The seat won't fold down flat, but it allows access to put things behind the rear seat that would be out of sight!!! Once modified, you would just raise seat bottom slightly to allow the clips to just come out of retainers and fold forward. I know this seems pretty useless, but space is at a premium in a truck! Hope this helps someone.

I would love to access that space, I tried last year a found the bolt so tight I didn't have a long enough breaker bar. Did u have that problem and if so what tools did u use?

Use long breaker bar add piece pipe to the bar to breaker the bolts loose, I used my wireless lug wrench to loosen the bolts. I put air hose extension back there, some spare trailer lights and some tools for changing trailer tires! With three difference trailers you get the picture no tools match!

I'll post some pictures later. I did this to my truck about 8 years ago and it really is handy. I store all my straps and moving blankets behind the seat. You do have to remove the carpeted covering back there if you want to put anything hard like a tool kit or something as the seat wont go back without bulging the seat out and making it uncomfortable for those that may sit in the back.

1 big thing to consider!!!!! There are the vents behind the seat that you can see when looking between the cab and bed wall. if you have a tool case say craftsman tool kit or hard case tool box, Those can get pushed out and lost, ask me how I know. I had to purchase new ones and then i put RTV on them, waited for it to get tacky and then reinstalled them and they haven't moved.

You also run into the metal now rattling against the metal brackets that hold them back so I have used electrical tape and wrapped both pieces about once a year depending on how often I need something behind the seat.

The seat will also not stay up with anything behind it at this point as well. like if you needed to put something big and flat in the back seat you can no longer fold the seat up and flat like it would be factory because you have created an expansion point that keeps the lower seat portion at an angle that wont stay up.

I also found that by doing this the back seat tends to rattle a lot more so I took the back head rests, flipped them 180* and reinstalled so they just barely rest against the glass which puts a small amount of pressure that is just enough to keep it from rattling but not enough to put pressure on the back glass and mess anything up.
These are just things that I have noticed from doing this so long ago. I also haven't been able to find the white pieces just by themselves if i ever wanted to change it back but it is very handy the way it is now so that will probably never happen.

I'll find the anit-rattle clip part# and post it along with pics showing how much i trimmed off to make this mod work. Spraying the bolts from under side helps a lot! Have run into the vent issue but good to know. The mod helps me when going into the field to enjoy hunting and having a safe out of site place on way home and having to stop at stores! More to follow. Good to here interest and other have done.

I saw this “modification “ a few years back. If your careful you can cut the hooks back just enough to allow the seat back to fold forward. But not loose the plastic anti rattle pice.

I have done this on 2 trucks.When you cut the metal bar off you need to leave 5/16 to 3/8 of an inch of the plastic and then bevel the corners. Then everything about the rear seat functions exactly like the factory except at about maybe 65 degrees it will fold down.
