Trailer flooring help needed.

The best of both worlds!

I have been trying to purchase the 2000 model towing mirrors to replace the mirrors on my 99 model truck. The clip-on mirors I've been using are just not working the way I want them too. I checked with my dealer approx. 6 months ago and was told there was a long back order list. I asked the price of them and was told $270. 00 per pair. I just recently inquired again and was told there was still a long back order, and he told me the price is now $ 340. 00 a piece, or $680. 00 a pair. What goes on here? Are they charging more because of the huge amount of interest? Or is the dealer trying to rip me off?

The parts guy must be numb. That last price is what ou would pay if they sold you the mirrors individually. You need the conversion kit with its own number... 82206157

I ALWAYS go to them with number in hand (pretty easy with a parts manual).

Try Mopar4less or Dave Smith motors for a better deal. Dave Smith has the parts catalog on line and you can query for prices. Get a price if you want to deal local and make your local dealer meet it. This has worked for me.

I will go to the dealer with parts # in hand, and see if he gives me a different story. Does the dealer you checked with have them in stock? Thanks for the quick response.

Your local parts counter has the ability to search for dealers that have the mirrors in stock. I don't know how the search function works, but my local dealer was out of stock, gave me the back-order story, and a print-out of the ten closest dealers with the mirrors in stock. I ordered them from Earnhardt Dodge in Gilbert, Arizona (1-877-MY-MOPAR). They were 25% off list and arrived at my Ventura County, California home in two days - $210 with shipping and no sales tax.

Mechanicsville Dodge in Mechanicsviller Virgina (800. 559. 6698) has the lowest E-Brake by Jacobs price. They may deal on the mirrors.

Good luck!

I agree with both Andy & Thomas the kit is the only way to go. The local dealer here ordered them and installed them in less than one week under $200. These mirrors are great.

I believe the new 2002 1500 trucks have them in a power, heated model. A couple of TDR guys are trying to do a conversion with these for our trucks (the new ones don't fit on ours). Stay tuned.

In TDR issue 31 page 14 it states that you need to reinforce the mirror mounts on the doors P/N55156128AB RH 55156129AB LH said they are about $8. 85 each. Maybe somthing to do if you have a 2000 or older truck.

Just to let everyone know how this has turned out.

With the help of the parts #, and contacting the different sources provide by the people that have posted, I found these mirrors for $196. 00. So I went to my local dealer and asked him to match this price, and with a little hesitation he did.

So thanks to everyone who provided assistance. I appreciate the help.

Happy with my dealer

You always hear the horror stories... . I called my dealer, gave him the PN asked for availability and "Internet price" (They told me to always do that when I bought the truck) The kit was in stock at $188! Looks like I'll be pitching my rubber band mirrors. I never used the defrost mode and I had to hand adjust the rubber band ones anyway. Springdale Dodge 501 751 4563 in NW Arkansas.
