You mean YALL don't have things like this?

The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. On the other hand, the French eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. However, the Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

Conclusion: Eat & drink what you like. It's speaking English that kills you.

Discuss..... ;)

By the way, I thought your location was Ireland?

It was Dublin, Ireland up until October 2001, then I moved onto Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia until March 2002 and ever since, I've been based out of Berne in Switzerland. It's the nature of my profession (cellular communications industry)

Here's my take on things: Americans are literally bombarded with media that influences their choices of meals. Where else but in America do you see: "$5. 99 Chinese Buffet - All you can SWILL!!"

It's the type of food we eat, when we eat it (latenights are not good... . ), IF we even bother to eat (skipping meals eventually causes metabolism to slow down... ), and how much we eat of it.

Americans have poor exercise regimens too... .

I also believe that there is a problem with the psychological aspect of eating/exercise. There are a huge # of overworked/underpaid employees worldwide... . but here in the U. S. when we're not working we sit on our behinds and watch TV (which again, is loaded with food Ads... ). It's a vicious cycle... . we don't have time to sit and eat a good meal... so we eat crap and get fat. We get depressed because we get fat, and we eat even more food as a coping mechanism... .

I also believe that there is still a bit of a social stigma for men (and sometimes women... ) to eat heathily. Example: Night out on the town... . guys night out. Do guys eat salads and drink Perrier while shooting pool? No, we eat pickled eggs, guzzle beer, and eat nachos..... and readily make fun of any dude who refuses the "American Fare"...

Think of all the 'fun times' you've had in your life... and think of what you were eating during that time. Chances are... . you weren't eating plain steamed rice with kidney beans... . "What kind of fun is that?" We think it is 'daring' or 'fun' to divulge from our normal eating habits... . and it's 'good to be bad' every now and then.

Nowhere else in the world would you see cars by the millions with only 1 passenger (the driver... ). In most other countries it is prohibitively expensive to drive a car, it also might not be needed since public transportation is readily available... or people just walk to work. I don't know of anyone who walks to work... . most folks I know have a commute. We get up (late) in the morning... rush around... . eat crap..... stop by D*nkin Donut$ for more crap to eat..... RUSH to work (sitting on your butt in your car while eating crap... )..... get to work..... drink more coffee..... hit up the 'snack cube' for more junk. It's not good for us... . but somehow most of us end up in the same rut.....

All of this is a recipe for cardiovascular disaster... .
