For all of you that have packed up and gone south for the winter. .

This is the mess that you avoided today. Snow packed in the grille so bad that the outside air temp gauge was climbing.

Just like driving on marbles, even the big trucks couldn't go. My truck would not sit still in 4wd above 45mph.

The truck in front of me breaking trail grosses out at 100,000lbs and he could only go 40-45mph and stay in the road...

The cars that left the road this morning were sliding all the way down the ditch. Wreckers were busy.

Weeeeeee Ha... ... ... ... .....

Wow, that is crazy... . I can't even comprehend driving in that mess, but then again, I wore shorts to work today. :)

Yes, we are having record temps as well.

That is one of the reasons it was so nasty and greasy.

Temp was 45 and pouring rain last night, at 5. 30 this am it turned to this wet, heavy gloppy snow.

I have driven all my life in snow and this was treacherous stuff.

I much prefer driving in snow at 10 degrees or lower, the snow is much more stable and offers far better traction.

I spent 4 years around Limestone, Caribou at Loring AFB in the early to mid 70's. When I lived off base I remember only being able to see the tops of the telephone poles from all the snow and plowing building the piles higher after each pass. We had a storm one night and I walked out of the apartment to only see the ball on top of the antenna on a 69 Plymouth satellite and the engine compartment was completely packed with snow. I did not go to work that day as it required a 6' ladder to get up on the road. The 70 below wind chills did not help the situations up there either. Beautiful state tho. Think I will stick with shoveling this sun shine for now. Besides, the truck has no rust, the exhaust still looks new and I can remove all bolts with out a 55 gallon drum of penetrating oil and a torch.

Those photos bring back memories of some very scary days pulling trailers west across I-80, I-90, or I-94 in weather like that.

That cold and snow is not my natural habitat.

Well Mike Chicago IL. had its very first official snowfall of the winter last night. The area had a total of . 5 to . 7 " of snow. But I88, I90 and I55 all had accidents this morning in fact my son said he saw 8 cars in the ditch on I88 as he went to work. It seems like every year people have to remember about winter driving. Slow down and take your time, you cannot do 80 MPH with snow on the roadway.

A light dusting is usually the worst for driving in because people will not slow down. I would take your snow fall any day over a light dusting.
