I can't count how many auto start/stop things I've driven, and looked for a defeat button, but every single one refired merely easing up on the brake pedal a millimetre or so.
@Tuesdak. I remember those mild hybrids, and with many drivers around here unattentive, performed an experiment. It was fully possible to come to a stop where the engine stopped, leave it in Drive, hit the power door unlock button, unclick your seatbelt and open the door...and as soon as you released the brake pedal it started up automatically. I often wondered how that got past GM legal...

Do you really think restarting JT9 or J 58 engines that low and restart good luck, I be using the inject seat!
My point exactly in a round about way. They must have made pot legal from where ever the idea came from. The torture to the battery and starter will not even come close to the fuel saved so maybe they were thinking of the parking lots in L A

IIRC the idea started in congested areas of Europe and they did it because they could measure an improvement (maybe 0.1 liter/100km?) but it didn't catch on here until, supposedly, they could get a measurable benefit. At least to begin with they all got AGM batteries, and whenever I watch the UPS or USPS truck start 5 times in a few minutes and a couple-hundred yards I figured somebody knew how to upgrade starters.
Mazda even had a way to start it without a starter (iLoop?) wherein the engine stopped at a certain point and a brief shot of fuel and spark lit it.
