Need more towing power

i want a good transmission and torque converter

What would cause high oxidation numbers in the oil sample. (using 5w30 HDD 3000) Mine came back at 165. This was with 3k on new oil. Changed the oil b/c copper was high... replaced oil cooler... now have high oxidation. just trying to figure this out so I can quit spending so much dang money on oil :( I used the engine flush when I changed it and also blew the intercooler boot off once, but those are the only things I can point a finger at :confused: :confused: . Thanks in advance :)

Oxidation is usually caused from high temperatures. High Copper content on the Cummins 5. 9L engines is usually from the oil cooler. I would call 1-715-392-7101 (AMsoil Tech Services) and see what they might say.

Did you replace the cooler because of the high CU readings? Might have been a waste of time/money. Both my CTDs I've done oil sampling on had a spell where copper numbers spiked dramatically, then settled back down after 10-15k miles, so I never worried about it. Numbers were in the 100s if I remember right. It's happened to quite a few guys who sampled and after awhile the high CU numbers subside so it seems to be one of those quirky Cummins diesel traits.

yes I replaced the oil cooler b/c readings were close to 600. A little high for my liking and the oil had 16K on it. Just have to figure the oxi. out :{

The previous posts are correct.

High oxidation numbers are caused by a combination of heat, water, copper as a catalyst, oxygen, and pressure. High temps is definately something that should be looked at, but also moisture. If a truck sits a lot, condensation in the crankcase can introduce water levels to the oil, which could be adding to the problem. Just a thought.

thanks guys for the replies. I will call amsoil and see what they say as with my mods temp shouldn't be a problem and the coolant system is flushed and in good shape. Guess I will try another batch of oil :{
