I am going to rebuild my turbo here in the next few weeks months, cash allowing, and talk to HighTech Turbo in Salt Lake. They said I can go the stage 3 with new compressor wheel and get some extra hp and would still be durable, they said it was more durable than the HX-40.

Wanted to get some feedback if possible from some of you guys. I am about 400hp at the wheels, some hotrodding but mostly commuting and some towing. How do you like it, and what are some pos, neg about it if any.

Much appreciated.

I have the stage 2 wheel and compressor housing, and I like it. Gave me 30+ hp and 120+ ft/lb over a stock HX-35 with a 16cm housing. Spools like a stock 35 with a 12cm housing, EGT's dropped about 100* while cruising, and boost dropped. It's a little louder, too. :D This is all unloaded. Haven't towed with it, yet. I wanted the stage 3, but didn't want the downtime required for machining the bearing housing.

I have been considering this myself but I am not convinced the turbo will be balanced after the install. Granted all the parts are balanced individually, but I think it would be important to have the entire assembly balanced as a unit also only becasue at the extreme RPM's the unit sees.

It doesn't appear to be all that big of a problem though as I haven't heard anyone complain about damage after the installation.

My kit is sitting in my basement waiting for me to find enough time to install it. It looks very easy to do (other than removing the little bit of material to fit the pin wheel).

One question: How much material needs to be removed? Do I have to make the entire diameter bigger or remove a small piece of casting like a wedge of pie shape? If it is just a small piece of casting, has anyone ever done an install on the truck and remove the material with a ... . dare I say Dremel?

Mark,

What are they going to do to your 40?

Basically rebuild it. I bought just a compressor housing and two exhaust housings from a fellow TDR member at a  price!:D

I priced cartridge's everywhere and they had the best price. So I'm going to send them my compressor housing and 1 of my exhaust housings and have them reassemble it so I can run even more fuel!Oo.

I talked to one of the guy's at HTT heres what he said about balancing "The wheel comes balanced. Most people figure their turbine shaft must still be

close enough though it is best to take the assembly apart and balance the

complete rotating assembly. But in the real world, nobody has had any problems

doing it the quick way. "

I think Im going this way also you cant beat the price... ...

I just put mine on the other day. It is definetely different from the stock HX35 I replaced it with. I have the 16 housing so there is a little lag at bottom but once it lights at about 11 lbs you better have your seatbelt on. I havent opened it up just yet, need to break it in but 1st consensus is I like it!! Way more torque for sure.
