Banks Powerstroke?

Ok guys...help me out

Seems like a lot of guys here are in to tractors. The last week has been spent in my buds garage working on his 1070. JD wants like $8k for a cab for the tractor, so we setout to build on for under $300 (including a radio and heater)

here's some pics

and my fat a$$ sitting in the nearly complete new cab... .

Hey Will, that is some nice looking work. It will make that tractor a lot more pleasant to run too.

LMAO@"my fat a$$" too.

Great looking job on that cab, Will. The only problem is can see is the tractor is the wrong color. Tractors should be Farmall red!

M Barnett

M Barnett, I agree :D My grandpa used to be vice president of the IHC credit corporation, my dad's uncle was president of the IH truck division and my dad used to be a service manager in south philly for international. The tractor might be green but it's the only one I drive right now (I am looking for a cub or a Super 'A'

Yeah, I'd say the cab turned out decent for a 13 year old, a 16 year old and me (I am 18)

-Will

Will, I've got two Cubs and two Ford 8Ns. One Cub I am completely restoring now. A lot of work! You three fellows are well on your way to good things. You fellows come to Az and build me some cabs. I got the mig and plasma cutter.

M Barnett

Mig and a plasma cutter? Damn, it would turn out REALLY well, this was built with an old AC century stick welder and a sawsall :D

Red? Now, who is it, exactly that makes those tractors these days? Oh yeah, it's Case, no, wait, it's New Holland, no they make those blue ones, Ford, right? No, the blue ones are New holland now. Oh yeah, we were talking about the red ones. Those are Allis Chalmers, right, no that's Fiat these days, no, it's Fiatallis. But wait, that's New Holland isn't it? Oh yeah, it's Case IH too. Well, really, it's called CNH now... I'm confused:confused:

At least I still know who makes those green ones:D

Cab, Who Needs A Stinkin Cab

I DO. Nice job guys. But it needs to be Orange. That's me in the picture, so you will be able to recognize me if I'm at an event.

Brad

I was always told the reason they are painted green... . is so you can hide them in the weeds when they quit running :D

just kidding, i like paying twice for one tractor :D

M Barnett - whereabouts are you in S. AZ?

Do you know anyone that has a loader for sale that would fit an 8N?

Scott

Hi SLittle: I live in Safford, about 130 miles from Tucson. No, offhand, I don't know of a loader for sale. They were used on the 8Ns, but the loaders a quite hard on the little tractors as they aren't very strong in the front end. and also hard on the steering box. They are a plowing, pulling fool, its what they do best.

Michael

Michael - You are absolutely correct about the N being a pulling tractor, I know loaders are marginal on an N but I live on 1. 3 acres so mine is mostly for playing with small projects. Seems like a loader would be handy for moving piles of dirt and gravel and cleaning up after the horses.

Scott

Scott most of the loaders i have seen for the N tractors have trip buckets. those bite IMO.

if you can find one that is electric/hydro and run it off your accesories, would be the route i would take. you just need to be careful not to over load it and break you front axles. plus remember you have no power steering.

I bought a little Masey in 92 and love it. we use it to mow and work around the farm with as well. we have two horses and it comes in real handy for mucking out stalls. i made an adapter to make the bucket about twice the capacity and i can muck one stall completely out at a time. where it used to take about six wheelbarrow loads to do it the manual way. then i just pull up to the sawdust ben and load it once, then dump it in front of the stall and shovel it in.

there is no replacement for a loader. and no limit to what you can do with it. how about feed? i cant get my truck around the corner to get down the isle but the tractor fits :D

the Deere crack was just that guys, take no offense from it please.

OH ya, super nice job on the cab, Will. that kind of ability will save you a lot of money in your lifetime :D

Scott, I think it would be ok as long as you didn't try to overdo it, and Todd is right about most of them are trip buckets. Those little 4x4s can really get some work done around a place and they are so handy, like Todd says.

Todd, all of us tractor guys have to have this banter about whose favorite brand of tractors is best! Their all good and their all fun. And that is part of the fun, picking on the other guys. It didn't work with Will though.

Michael

Trip buckets...

Yeah, the old trip buckets are a real pain. I've always wondered why nobody seems to put a more modern loader on the older tractors. I'll guess that it's mostly because the manufacturers don't see a market here and don't make a mounting bracket to fit.

But, if you've ever looked at loader mounting brackets, well, they're not exactly rocket science are they? It seems to me that you could get the basic measurements for your tractor and check the various mounting brackets available for different loaders and find one that's pretty close. It seems like modifying it to fit shouldn't be too hard for a competent welder/fabricator.

Yeah, that'll add to the cost some, but modern loaders are *WAY* better than those old fashioned contraptions...

Oh, and Todd, we all knew you were just funnin' with us. That's just part of life with farm equipment, the other guy's stuff is always junk compared to the heap you're stuck with:D

P. S. , Back to the original entry, that's some fine work on the cab guys! It'll make life lots nicer in inclement weather. Just watch out about those hot summer days. Without A/C, those cabs turn into ovens is a hurry (yeah, my A/C died last summer, there's just no way to open enough windows to help... )

Thanks for the info guys. I've seen some Dearborn loaders that have hydraulic dumps but everytime I find one it's back in PA or MI or up in WA. Half the fun is in the searching and it will give me an excuse for frequent road trips.

Scott

Scott, Does the N have a 3pt? Maybe one of those 3pt scoop buckets would work? Dunno, just a suggestion.

Course' you don't want to hear it but the Kempton, PA farm equipment auction is March 16th. Always good for the unusual and sometimes useable.

will24, nice cab. I could use one for my Massey1260. Been on it plowing snow up to 9 hours. Get's a bit chilly.

Re: tractor talk etc. The Ram is okay but tractor's? It don't get no better. Love my Case 2090 4x4.
