I want to install a remote starter for my 05 CTD.



Anyone have experience doing this themselves? What product did yoiu buy?



Can anyone do it or do I need to go to a shop?

Buddy had a full system installed on his 04, works great, but that sort of thing I would rather have it backed up by some workmanship gaurantee. Good luck.

I know there is--I remember looking at a few posts two years ago that discussed it, and then looking at some units that were available. I just don't remember now which brands they were (I'll become more interested if I succeed in making the move to your neck of the woods). IIRC (and it's a little fuzzy), you have to get out and lock the doors with the engine still running (ala a turbo timer--and the clutch not depressed) to enable the system. A door unlock or door open signal prior to an attempted remote start would disable it (because the system no longer knows the transmission is in neutral).

$68 from Sam's Club. I don't remember the manufacturer. Very easy to get it in and running, took me about 30 minutes. But it did take me a while and allot of research to get the bells and whissles (Alarm, Door Lock/unlock)to work. My first question for you is do you have a grey or black key. Mine is black, but if it were grey that means you would have to install an alarm bypass modual. I have not installed of one of these before. If the key is black you could do the install by yourself if you take your time. Good luck.
