? for those of you with amps

I just installed a Rockford Fosgate amp under the drivers seat. I left the stock head unit and used a speaker/line level input covertor because I dont want to change out the factory head unit, just want a little more bass. The problem Im running into is that at a loud level I get what sounds like distortion or some sort of noise out of the subs, If i turn the volume down a little or turn the speaker/line level input level down or even the amp gain down it kind of goes away. Im going to change out the subs tomorrow just for grins and see if that helps... I have already tried 2 different amps. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Make sure that everything is correct as far as - and + connections. Also, turn down the Line converter and use the amp's gain. You didn't say whether the boxes for the subs were home built or store bought. I say this because often times, people make the box too small for the size of sub that they wish to have. Radio Shack sells a decent book on speakers, boxes and wiring. For many years I used the stock dodge head unit with an Alpine amp and two 10 inch subs that sounded pretty good. I eventually made a larger box for just one of my subs, changed the head unit (I wanted an mp3 deck) and kept the same amp. I have more bass and less distortion now with the one 10" sub then I did previously with two. Good luck.

Anther thing to think about is possible distortion in the head unit from turning it too far up. Personnaly, the factory unit is the first thing out of my trucks. Everything sounds clearer and cleaner, bass and all. Good luck!

I you have the infinity stereo like I do, to change the head unit you have to change everything else! The amp won't work with the after market headunits and the door speakers won't work with aftermarket amps. I just need a little more bass in mine but I don't have the money to upgrade everything!

I had the factory head unit hooked up to 2 ten's via the speaker wire inputs. I just recently changed to a good kenwood deck with 5 volt RCA outputs, The difference is amazing the subs sound much better across a wider frequency range.

Subs should'nt sound better across a wide freq range they are designed for the lower end of the sound spectrum 160hz and lower
