Learned something the hard way

Switching to Ford

Just wondered if Ford and GM give thier customers the same level of run-around that DC does? Granted every manufacturer is going to have its share of complainers (both legitimate and otherwise), but just wondered how the issues between the big three stacked up.

Does Ford void your entire truck warranty (and the warranty of all of your friends and neighbors) if you have a non-standard CD in the CD player like DC would? Would GM chase you out of the service area for using aftermarket air in the tires, like DC seems to?

Just curious...

(note before flames, I'm being a little tounge-in-cheek here - I know there are lots of good dealers for all makes, and lots of bad ones too. I'm just wondering if anyone has a feel on overall customer service between the big three)

Good one, Will. lol

I think Will is right on the money, here. From the limited experience I've had on the other sites, GM and Ford put DC to shame in this arena. When I bought my 96, I was buying the motor in DC shell. I'm happier w/ it than I thought I'd be. If I could have found a Ford w/ a scaled down Cat or Detroit, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Just no good options, but the CTD, when looking at real pickups. Gassers are a bigger joke than Power-Bloke or dura-mix. :-laf

Ford's version of customer service and not standing behind a warranty on a transmission when it blew at 850 miles is the major reason I moved to my Cummins... I ought to write them a letter of thanks

Friend of mine had an alternator go out on his PSD, at about 20,000. The dealer wouldn't honor the warranty after they decided it was a comercial vehicle, since it had his brand on it, and a gooseneck hitch. GM wouldn't honor the warranty on my grandfathers 95 chevy gasser. The engine puked out the coolant through a headgasket, and then overheated. Dealer felt that it was our fault the coolant was low. Never did get the money back for that. They charged nearly $5000 for the new engine. We only took it there cuz it was still under warranty. Fact is, all the manufacturers will have some disatisfied customers. The only vehicle I have owned that is covered under a warranty is my wifes 01 Dodge Intrepid. I have had very good luck with DC. They have fixed some very nitpicky items for me and did it with a smile.

I think you have the best chance of getting satisfactory service from GM and a good chance of the dealer ignoring mods that probably have nothing to do with the problem.

I've had GM in my family since 1991. Three were diesels including a Dmax. GM dealer saw gauges and did not want me to talk about it. They simply did what was asked. Heck they even sell Juice in the Performance shop.

This Dodge... service sucks. DC seems to look for ways to not repair it when i take it in.

Let me tell you about Cheby. I had a Duelly Diesel. Somehow, the wiring that went to the glow plugs shorted to ground. Of course with the power the plugs pull, the fuse was rated high enough that it allowed most of the wiring harness to be fried at the firewall. Cheby dealer said it must have been something I did to make that happen. It was. I was waiting on the "Wait to Start" light to go out. I brought a friends truck to the dealership and we winched the truck up onto the trailer with no help from the dealership at all. I fixed the wiring harness and sold that truck. That's the last Cheb I owned or ever intend to own. Had I known about the Cheb site, I'm sure I could have gone over there and got beaten down like a rabbid dog for even suggesting that a poor design could have cause my problem.

My Ram dealer is truly a 5 star. They take care of all problems no matter how insignificant they seem. No runarounds.

I think it all just depends on who runs the dealership.

That's the key right there. I've got a "5-star" dealer in town that I won't go to anymore, but instead drive 3 towns away to a better "non-5-star" dealer.

Moderator's have kindly asked us not to use that term in support of some of our Dealers that don't deserve the connotation.

Were can one find a (good) dealer I had Toyota's up the these two do_g_ this last one is anyway and Toyota replaced the head gasket out of warranty and the clutch because there head gaskets don't fail out of warrenty and their rear engine oil seal doesn't get oil on the clutch that you have to pay for. A far cry from what DC makes one to pay for. Their mechanics are mechanics. Not the re&re's that I have run across.
