somebody needs this

Worth it?

I know several have done the subject conversion. The more I think about it, the more I want one.

Just wondering how it's been working. What you might do differently, etc.

Thanks, RJR

'85 Ram Prospector and 4BTA

I'm in the middle of dropping in my 4BTA and NV4500 into an'85 Ram 4x4 shortbed Prospector. I was thinking about a Dakota when I found this gem in Abilene Tx. The benefits I have seen this far are:

1. mocho room for the engine. I have 5" clearance from the firewall at this point and I'm not fighting with transmission tunnel height.

2. Plenty of head room in engine compartment to raise the engine so that you can work with the original front cross-member. No cutting.

3. No drive line length changes. Note 5" clearance in item one. I can mate right up to the original NP208 without an adapter.

4. Only tanny mod I have is a homemade adapter because I have the bread truck 12" GM bellhousing instead of a Dodge bellhousing.

5. I found that there are a lot of cheap 12" diesel rated clutches out there that will fit the GM bellhousing and Cummins flywheel.

In a nutshell if your not into major frame and driveline changes, this is the way to go.

DW. Can you post some more pics of the conversion(or e-mail them). I would love to see how you are doing. I have an RC that I'm looking at doing.

Thanks!!

I have the engine on the stand right now because I'm having some work done on the transmission adapter plate. It's not much to look at right now; just an empty engine compartment and no front fenders. I should have the engine and transmission back together in a week or two maybe three if I go on my week long spring salmon fishing trip this year. I'd be glad to post some pics when the engine is back in place. You will be able to see the clearances then.

Yes. The RC should be sweet. What year?

What Year???

I bought my wife an '82 RC for Christmas. Bad engine... Knew it needed work, but put another reman 318 into it. As of now, there is not and once of doubt that I could have put even an old 6BT in it for what I have in it now! Frustrating, to say the least. I guess most of it comes from MY beast! It would be nearly impossible to sell me a truck(any for that matter) with GAS engine in it... New or Old. I LOVE my truck. The RC has SERIOUS potential, as far as I'm concerned and I can't the wife out of it! She loves it as it is. A Cummins would really do it the justice it deserves!

Post away!!!. . or email them. I' love to see everything that you are doing. I know it's tough to take the time, so IF you find some (time), please keep me updated!!

Thanks!!!!

Andrew
