Found this at archive.org this afternoon. You need broadband to see it. It's a 20 minute 1952 film about the history of the diesel engine. Here's how it's billed:
"Traces the development of the diesel from the Otto 'SILENT' gas engine of 1877, through Rudolph Diesel's engine, to the machines that now drive ships, trains, tractors, trucks and cars. " Click this link to see it: The Diesel Story. It's impressive that they were able to get Lionel Cole to direct it, and that he talked Sidney Beadle into doing the camera work. I don't think the film would have been so gripping otherwise. The diesel stuff comes 7 minutes in, after a quick history of the "heat engine". I'm embarrassed to say that I had never heard of a "hot bulb" engine before.
For more diesel stuff, type the word "diesel" in the search box and select "All Media Types". It's mixed in with other stuff, but there is a lot about diesel engines, including these two:
2007 SEMA - ATS Diesel Technology
