How are you guys dealing with water in the pipes? Do you just have a hole at the bottom or do you have some type of removable plug?

It doesn't rain enough here for me to bother with it.

There are a few ways to deal with it.

One is, to put the type of tips on it where you don't have to worry about it, like BullHorns, or turnouts. Another, you could put "caps" on the stacks, or if you will be parking it alot with a high probability of rain, just temporary caps on the stacks.

If geting soot all over your truck isn't a big deal to you, then don't bother with anything,, you will need to have 12" of rain before you would run into problems.

If you want to let water drain out, then you can drill a 1/8" hole at the lowest part of your exhaust system and that will let the water drain out, but I just can't stand the "hole in the exhaust" sound.

I've had stacks for about a year on my truck without any holes, and I haven't had any problems yet,, besides the occasional soot shower.

Thanks Merrick, I really like the look of the slash cut stacks. I've thought about straight cut with rain caps or turnouts, but I haven't decided. I could drill a large hole at the bottom, weld a nut, and use a bolt as a removable plug if I had to drain them I suppose.

We put stacks on my sons truck. I got him 2 small buckets that he can put over the stacks when it rains. But he usually forgets and gives a white caddy a soot shower. :D I keep telling him one of these days he's going to be washing and waxing a car.

Check out Rob Thomas's Stacks

His design is very neat and lets the water drain out by itself and that is with straight pipes with slant cuts. I don't wash my truck very often so after 5 weeks I could see a few soot spots on my truck but that was with rain just about once a day(sometimes twice) for a month straight. I don't know of a perfect system but this works pretty good.

Stacks Rule!!

I've looked at his system in the classifieds. I can't see how the water drains out. I am assuming he just has a hole in the bottom. I may try it that way and if I don't like the sound, I'll put in a removable plug. I also check into Robs system a little more. I want to know how he does it with a tilt bed.

black rain

My stacks are turned out, and the only time that I have a problem water in the stacks is if I am not careful washing the truck. Otherwise no "black rain" whatsoever.

I've been thinking seriously about getting stacks installed on my road truck. But have heard some say they soot their boat or trailer up pretty badly. Is this true? How difficult is it to clean the 5er or whatever? I deliver new trailers, maybe wouldn't have a problem with this cause only hooked for 1k miles, 2k at the most usually. What do you think, wouldn't this truck look kool with stacks? Might hold a poll to decide if stacks should be in front or behind the sleeper. In front would show off more, but probably sleep better with them behind. Maybe script "Wanna be a Big Truck" on the back of the sleeper.
