Here is a website that sells a complete inside the frame rail CAT kit that only takes about 30 minutes to install. It goes anywhere between the tank and engine with no drilling. We use it on all of our company trucks. We have never replaced injectors on any of them and some have well over 200,000 miles. They get changed about every 20-30,000 miles for $16. Cheapest fix out there!

Cummins CAT Fuel Filter Kit

anyone have input on this... would like to filter my fuel a little better... I always change fuel filter every other oil change... .

You can piece together your own kit for much much less and use the Donaldson P551313 filter which is a tad better than the CAT 1R-0750.

How much less??? This one says $169 including shipping. Seems reasonable.

Agreed, they have created a clever bracket that requires no drilling of the truck frame.

Also have sourced some neat fitting/hose ends that make a nice clean install.

By the time a fella' got done running all over creation trying to make it piece by piece he will have just as much money in it and less time to drink beer..... ;)

Worth every penny in my opinion.

Mike. :)

I wouldn't want a CAT labeled filter on my Dodge  The FLG # is FF5320. Not a bad setup though but you could easily make it yourself as FLG makes a heat just like that one. Shad

Who cares about having a Cat filter on a Cummins, as long as it's down to 2 micron before it hits the injectors... . You remind me of my wife buying shoes because they are "prettttty". Are they functional??

Aaron

DO you have to cut the fuel line????

Yes. It is one steel line from the tank to the engine. It takes about a minute to cut out that section. Don't worry though, you could have a rubber hose and two rubber bands clamping it on and it wouldn't leak. Their isn't much pressure at all before the injection pump, just lots of volume. Trust me, this kit is beyond over-engineered as far as compressing to the steel line and being able to handle it. It's very straight-forward and simple to install... ..... I did 8 trucks in about 3 hours taking my time on the last 4... ... . Not one problem ever with the setup or the injection system since.

So you just leave your stock filter set up on as well right ?That looks like what I need on my big Ram. Nice and decent price too.

Would this kit work on a 2003 with the factory lift pump on the stock filter housing? I am not sure if this pump has enough power to suck fuel from the tank and this big filter and still make it to the HP pump without premature pump burnout.

Thanks

My question is why you would want a smaller micron filter BEFORE the factory filter? Doesn't make sense to me. My Cat filter is mounted on the head of the engine and connected in between the factory filter and CP3 utilizing the rubber hose. takes about 15 minutes to install after making a simple flat metal bracket for the mount.

BTW, I have gotten well over 100,000 miles on one of these Cat filters without any pressure drop.

Godspeed,
Trent

Donaldson P551313 filters are a tad better and are $7 a piece. A Baldwin filter head is $23. Fab up a bracket and get some fittings and you are good to go.

If you don't want the hassle, then yes, you can spend three times the amount and call it good.

They aren't rated at 2um anymore because of the revamped testing standards, but they are still one of the better filters available.

Don't get me started on the shoes thing. Of the 100+ pairs of shoes my wife has, not even a handful of them are practical.

you can use the kit on your 03. our neighbor has one before the pump but i run two hoses back and cut them in between the pump and stock filter he uses a larger cat filter i think 1r 0749 this kit looks a lot neater and stronger than my home made one's

I wouldn't mount the "2um" filter before the f/w sep, its designed as the final filter not the first.

If your just adding a single filter and want it to be a final filter it needs to go after the OEM canister.

The Cat is a 4um filter, and the Donaldson P551313 is a 3um filter, the FF5320 is 5um. . so take your pick on filters. I ran the Cat for years until the ratings changed.

I think the last kit I put together for a guy to mount a single filter under the truck was about $75.

Ya having a low micron filter in front of a high micron filter doesn't really make sense, I have a feeling its just the easiest way to install another filter on the system and easiest to service. Personally I would rather have a dual filter head with a good water separator/high micron filter then a low micron, though I dont know how many filters the stock lift pump can push through efficiently.
