Oh you know when they are clogged all right, the engine will either lose power or quit.
Some Diesels are of one persuasion, some are the other.
I have driven, maintained, encountered both. Old NTC Cummins engines usually just quit with no warning, Detroit and CAT will lose power but keep running.
There is no way I would allow a bypass of any kind in a fuel system.
I'm with Wingate, not taking sides but telling you what I have seen with many Diesel engines over the years.
